Job Description
DEPARTMENT: PATIENT TRANSPORT
F ACILITY: Tift Regional Medical Center
WORK TYPE: Full Time
S HIFT: Daytime

SUMMARY:
The transporter is responsible for ensuring that patients are transported safely and in a timely manner to and from departments within the main hospital. This position requires the transporter to use an electronic device for sending and receiving information regarding patient transport jobs. In addition, he/she is responsible for assisting in holding patients during examinations and ensuring that patients are moved from their bed to a wheelchair or stretcher safely and without fall or injury to the patient.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Manages stretcher, wheelchair and oxygen equipment.
  • Demonstrates age-specific skills as required by position.
  • Reports equipment in need of repair in order to extend life of equipment.
  • Cleans stretchers, wheelchairs and other equipment routinely.
  • Understands and adheres to compliance standards as they appear in the Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct, and Conflicts of Interest Policy.
  • Routinely inspects equipment for damage and defects on a daily basis.
  • Maintains required competency levels as identified in written exams, skills checklists, skills labs, annual safety and health requirements as well as service excellence education hours requirements.
  • Keeps oxygen tanks full on wheelchairs and stretchers.
  • Volunteers/participates on hospital committees, functions, and department projects.
  • Offers suggestions on ways to improve operations of department and reduce costs.
  • Manages resources effectively.
  • Keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state and facility regulations, laws and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified.
  • Assists in keeping department and work areas clean and safe.
  • Manages mobile phone notification status while on duty.
  • Makes good use of time so as to not create needless overtime.
  • Willing to cross-train in order to better assist co-workers and to provide maximum efficiency in department.
  • Attends all mandatory education programs.
  • Improves self-knowledge through voluntarily attending continuing education/certification classes.

EDUCATION:
* High School Diploma or Equivalent

OTHER INFORMATION:

* Successful completion of a CNA, PCT, or MA program preferred, but not required.
