About This Position:

Interns evaluate, select, and apply standard techniques, procedures and criteria to perform a task or sequence of tasks for conventional types of plans, development of planning studies or reports, investigations, or surveys with relatively few complex features under the general guidance of a Project Planner/Engineer or Project Manager. This work is on small projects or portions of larger projects. Typical projects include transit, highway, traffic signal, bridge design, long range transportation planning, traffic impact studies and transit planning.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Data collector in the field.
  • Attend project meetings with senior staff.
  • Assist in maintaining equipment inventory.
  • Assists at various meetings including public and client meetings.
  • Perform quantity estimates.
  • Responsible for writing report sections.
  • Responsible for basic QA/QC tasks; review of own work,
  • Observe construction activities.
  • Prepare drawings and visual aids.
  • Perform standard computations or basic analysis.
  • Perform design tasks.
  • Perform specific portions of a broader assignment of an experienced planner/engineer/inspector.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Provide office support for copying and deliveries.
  • Involvement in outreach activities with community service organizations.
  • Field observations to expand experience.
  • Perform survey work.
  • Responsible for meeting minutes, as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education:

Working towards a bachelor’s or master’s degree in related discipline such as civil engineering or planning from an ABET/EAC accredited program or an approved equivalent.

Job Prerequisites:

Self-motivated and strong work ethic.

Additional Skills/Abilities:

Strong organizational skills are required; ability to multi-task and work under pressure in a fast paced environment.
