Under general supervision performs field inspections and field testing in all areas of construction on complex road and bridge projects. These areas include concrete and steel placement, asphalt placement, earthwork operations, drainage structures, and any other incidental construction items. Assist with the development of co-workers in all aspects of construction. This includes concrete, asphalt road inspection, earthwork and drainage inspection, and field testing and sampling. Prepares reports to include various daily inspection forms, weekly reports, etc. by using site manager, excel, and other programs. Assists the project manager in the completion of as-built plans and with final close out procedures. Inspects traffic and erosion control on assigned projects or as needed. Ensures assigned projects receive a minimum QMT score of 2.82. Checks behind the contractor's grades and alignment for accuracy. Makes minor decisions concerning field adjustments. Coordinates with utility companies to expedite their relocations and help alleviate potential conflicts. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum And Additional Requirements

A high school diploma and three (3) years of progressively responsible engineering technician related experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. Attainment of a Technician Certification in accordance with the SCDOT Technician Certification Policy may substitute for six (6) months of directly related experience.

Physical Requirement: Works outside in heavy traffic and all weather conditions. Subject to dust, excessive noise, and traffic hazards for extended periods of time. Requires lifting, standing, stooping, bending, and some physical exertion. Employee may be required to work in excess of 40 hours per week.
