Job Description
Summary About the Position: Located in central New Jersey, Burlington County, Fort Dix is 72 miles southwest of New York City, 34 miles northeast of Philadelphia. Close to the Jersey shore, Fort Dix is also within short driving distance of a wide variety of leisure activities, cultural centers, museums, historical locations, fishing, hunting, boating, skiing, snowboarding, hiking locations, etc. Responsibilities Provide guidance and arrange the preparation, documentation, and movement of supported units to/from home station, mobilization station, seaport of embarkation/debarkation, airport of embarkation/debarkation, rail sites, and annual training sites. Compute transportation lift requirements for air, bus, and freight movements and determines the most practical and cost favorable mode of transportation. Operate automated equipment including Transportation Coordinator Automated Information Movement System, Single Mobility System, Integrated Computerized Deployment System, Cargo Movement Operation System, and Group Operational Passenger Systems. Manage and reconcile both air and freight centrally billed accounts (CBA) used by Logistics Readiness Center Dix (LRC Dix) and supported movements. Operate Material Handling Equipment (MHE) in support of freight operations and other Logistics Readiness Center warehouse operations as required. Advise unit personnel on how to palletize, load, and secure units vehicles and equipment ensuring compliance with established guidelines. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes work that involves: 1) determining various transportation modes for movement/shipment of personnel and/or equipment; and 2) planning and coordinating the movement/shipment of personnel and/or equipment, including providing guidance and assistance to personnel on regulations and procedures pertaining to transportation methods. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Communications Technical Competence Transportation Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-05). Physical Demands: Work is primarily sedentary and performed in an office and warehouse setting. However, approximately 20% of the time, employee is required to support unit movement activities, deployment execution operations and training exercises, the incumbent will also be required to work outside at Transportation Inspection Point, railhead, Arrival/Departure Airfield Control Group (A/DACG), remote deployment nodes, and manifest sites. When working outside and at off-site locations, the incumbent will be subject to periods of prolonged standing and walking on hard and sometimes uneven surfaces, stooping, bending, climbing, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions, inspecting shipping containers and other military cargo at various locations throughout the installation to validate for shipment. During deployment execution operations/training exercises, employee is exposed to excessive noise from military vehicles, material handling equipment and sometimes adverse weather conditions. Inspects hazardous materials in containers, climbs on and off rail cars, commercial trucks and various military vehicles for shipping documentation verification. Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
