Job Description
THE POSITION

The Department of Transportation is seeking a Traffic Control Technician to perform a variety of technical duties and data collection associated with all Traffic Studies, Safety, and Signing. Apply Today!


DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This is a position in which the employee will experience both an office and in the field settings designed to develop technical skills in the field with particular emphasis on traffic studies. An employee in this position will assist unit members in traffic studies such as sight distance measurements, speed limit studies, truck restrictions, hazardous walking routes, and evaluating multi-way stop warrants, etc. You will enter, revise and/or update traffic volume data, legal speed limits, and associated traffic data contained in Department computer system that relates to the responsibilities of the Traffic Studies Section. You will perform data collection, data analysis, and diagram preparation for manual and automatic traffic recorder (ATR) counts to include data entry and analysis, along with preparing reports of field data for design purposes, justification of traffic control devices, and designing required traffic controls.
You will assist in conducting after-studies for various projects, coordinate and schedule traffic data collection operations for traffic studies which may include multiple personnel and several concurrent locations, and collect speed limit data, including radar speed data, as part of speed studies.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Overtime may be required per work assignment as necessary.

  • Work hours are 7:00 am to 3:00 pm, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
  • One year of experience performing transportation engineering technical assignments, such as traffic control data collection, highway sign surveys, traffic signal inspection, materials sampling, testing, or inspection, construction inspection, bridge inspection, survey work, utility relocation, roadway programs management, or roadway materials control; and an Associate’s Degree in the field of mathematics, statistics, or a civil engineering technology; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • One year of experience as an Engineering Technician; or
  • Three years of experience performing transportation engineering technical assignments, such as traffic control data collection, highway sign surveys, traffic signal inspection, materials sampling, testing, or inspection, construction inspection, bridge inspection, survey work, utility relocation, roadway programs management, or roadway materials control; and graduation from high school; or
