Job Description
The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by incumbent(s) in this job. Job Title: Technician II, Water Quality Department: Water Quality & Technology
Job Type: Full-Time Employment Type: Non-Union, Regular
Grade/Salary: DS-09: $62,783- $80,900 per annum Hours: 8:00am - 5:00pm

SUMMARY
Responsible for the day-to-day actual physical mechanics of the water quality programs. Collects samples, conducts water quality testing, communicates with customers and other DC Water staff regarding water quality, and conducts data entry and analyses.
Essential Functions:
  • Operates DC Water vehicles as an essential function of the position. Maintains vehicles and/or equipment in aclean and orderly manner. Reports and operating deficiencies to the appropriate personnel.
  • Performs other related duties and projects as assigned at the discretion of the immediate supervisor
  • Evaluates operational activity in relation to water quality.
  • Compiles data for all water quality activities, enters data into Access and other databases, and writes reports.
  • Conducts customer complaint investigations in homes and commercial buildings. Communicates to customers about their water quality concerns and the testing and results.
  • Communicates with other Water Services branches and departments regarding water quality and operations.
  • Serve as a community liaison for various programs.
  • Provides assistance in water-related emergencies as directed by immediate supervisor.
  • Collects water samples from hydrants and inside buildings throughout the District. Performs hydrant sampling using proper sampling methods and equipment.
  • Conducts field and bench analysis for water quality parameters such as pH, hardness, total chlorine, fluoride, conductivity, etc.
  • Visually conducts plumbing inspections inside customer homes and commercial buildings to identify pipe materials and possible cross connections.

Key Working Relationships: Interacts with co-workers in the department and throughout DC Water, representatives from other government agencies, various community organizations, and with the general public.
EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE & OTHER MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
The minimum qualifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and ability necessary for an individual to perform each essential function satisfactorily. Reasonable amounts of training are provided.
  • Utilizes personal computer and maintains a working knowledge of applicable current softwa programs (i.e. word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail, etc.).
  • Must possess and maintain current a valid Motor Vehicle Operating License.
  • Good understanding of water analysis and programs.
  • Prefer Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science or Environmental Engineering from an accredited collegeor university and a minimum of 6 months experience in water sampling, testing, and analysis.
  • Good organizational skills and detail orientated.
  • High School diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate and three (3) years of progressive experience in water quality related programs.
  • Good verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
