Job Description
AI4Science team, part of Microsoft Research, is on the cusp of a new frontier in which machine learning and artificial intelligence are transforming our ability to model and predict the properties of matter at the atomic scale.
We are currently seeking a Technical Program Manager to join our Materials Design project in Redmond, WA.
This will create profound opportunities to create new molecules and materials and to help tackle some of society’s most important challenges, including sustainability, our understanding of biology, and the treatment of disease.

As a Technical Program Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the activities of our global Materials research team.
This is a role that thrives in ambiguity, demands exceptional attention to detail, embraces the complexities of a technical environment, and actively contributes to the team's success.
Your role will be pivotal in facilitating communication and collaboration between internal and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

In this role you will,
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment, where diverse perspectives are valued, and team members are empowered to contribute their best work.
  • Track project progress, identify risks and issues, and proactively implement solutions to ensure successful project delivery within established timelines and budgetary constraints.
  • Serve as a key point of contact and establish lasting relationships with internal and external stakeholders, fostering effective communication, alignment, and collaboration.
  • Lead program management activities of the Materials Design project, ensuring alignment with company objectives and driving the successful execution of projects and initiatives.
  • Work closely with others in the AI4Science Program Management team to develop and implement project management methodologies, processes, and tools to optimize team performance, enhance productivity, and streamline project execution.
  • Stay updated with the latest industry trends, advancements, and best practices in materials design, and leverage this knowledge to drive innovation and continuous improvement within the team.
  • Champion a culture of continuous learning, providing mentorship and guidance to team members, fostering their professional growth and development.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including researchers, engineers, and domain experts, to ensure effective coordination and delivery of project initiatives, while maintaining high-quality standards.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field (Materials Science, Chemistry, Physics, Computer Science, or Engineering) AND 2+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 1+ year(s) experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.
  • OR equivalent experience.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications:
  • 4+ years experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.
  • 1+ year(s) experience managing a machine learning project.
  • 1+ year(s) experience managing global team projects.
  • Bachelor's Degree AND 4+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development
    • OR equivalent experience.

Technical Program Management IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $94,300 - $182,600 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $120,900 - $198,600 per year.
