Who We Are


Founded in 1999, Maryland Coalition of Families (MCF) is a statewide nonprofit with a central office in Columbia, Md., and staff located in communities throughout the state. Using personal experience as parents, caregivers, youth and other loved ones, we connect, support and empower Maryland’s families. Our staff provide one-to-one support to parents and caregivers of people with mental health, substance use or gambling issues. We also advocate to improve systems that impact individuals with behavioral health challenges.


Overview


Maryland Coalition of Families (MCF) has a full-time (40 hours per week) employment opportunity for a Team Supervisor, Family Peer Support Services. The Statewide Team Supervisor is responsible for the supervision and guidance of a team of program staff comprised of Referral Specialists, some of whom also have Family Peer Support Specialist duties. The candidate must have personal (not work related) experience as a primary caregiver of a child, youth or adult who has/had mental health needs. After training and orientation, the Family Peer Support Specialist will provide family-to-family support, education, advocacy, coaching, information, referrals and follow-up to families seeking assistance.


Essential Duties And Responsibilities


  • Conduct regular and consistent peer consultation group.
  • Lead annual and mid-year performance appraisals of direct report staff in partnership with the Program Manager and Human Resources.
  • Partner with Human Resources and Program Manager to hire and onboard new employees. Provide support to ensure thorough orientation is conducted and completed for staff.
  • Provide programmatic supervision to team members, including regular and consistent individual supervision, ongoing family and record reviews, and observation and monitoring of the intake process and support for family and community activities to ensure the delivery of high-quality intake and family peer support services.
  • Assist in identifying and disseminating information about resources for families and youth.
  • Partner with other team supervisors as well as the Director of Social Marketing and Outreach to create and distribute an all-staff quarterly newsletter that is inclusive of all upcoming events.
  • In collaboration with the Program Manager, ensure contract deliverables are met by promoting an organizational culture that empowers staff members to achieve outcomes, using data to monitor contract deliverables and developing plans for corrective action as needed.
  • Monitor and evaluate the referral and intake process and make recommendations for improvements or changes as needed.
  • Responsible for personnel management, including identifying coaching opportunities and writing and delivering documented conversations, corrective action and performance improvement plans staff with support from the Program Manager, Human Resources, and the Chief Program Officer.
  • Assist with communication of real-life experience of families served to others in MCF to support program and policy development.


Qualifications


  • Can effectively utilize technology, including databases, and possesses working knowledge of standard computer applications including but not limited to: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, as well as proficiency with navigating the internet.
  • Mission-driven and flexible; able to anticipate issues and prioritize assignments
  • Successful completion of a background check and proof of vaccination or request for exemption and approval is required for all MCF employees.
  • Ability to work with diverse staff in a strengths-based way.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team to achieve established outcomes.
  • Personal (not work related) experience as a primary caregiver of a loved one with behavioral health disorders is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a human services field, or minimum three years of experience working with families caring for individuals with behavioral health challenges preferred.
  • Ability to identify and resolve conflict.
  • Strong organizational, written, and oral communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • At least two years of supervisory experience in the human services field is required.
  • Ability to travel throughout the state and within the region regularly. Current Maryland driver’s license and insurance, and access to own vehicle.


Hours/Compensation


  • 40 hours/week
  • Monday - Friday days, with some flexibility
