ABOUT THE SCHOOL/DEPARTMENT


Since Columbine High School opened in 1973, we have established strong traditions and a culture of Rebel Pride. This pride is rooted in the fact that we are a close-knit family and community of learners. We are committed to high standards of learning for all students, valuing each and every member of our school community. We emphasize building strong relationships with every students. We expect personal and collective responsibility and promote high levels of engagement and performance in learning, which results in future life success.

Presently, Columbine serves 1700 students as a comprehensive high school in a suburban setting. Approximately, 20% of the student population is free and reduced, 27.7% is minority, 2.8% ELL, and 8.8% are enrolled in special education services. The gifted and ALP population is 21%. Our goal is to challenge each student and provide academic interventions for them when they do not understand. We have strong Advanced Placement program in which over 400 of our students take courses in annually. In addition, we offer an AP Capstone Diploma, which we are one of only a handful offered in the state. Special Education students and second language learners have the support of a caring and experienced staff. We are also working on implementing classes in which students can explore career pathways.

Student athletic and activity involvement is highly encouraged. CHS offers 23 varsity level sports with over 1000 students involved. We have a strong music program which includes vocal music and instrumental music. We have a theatre program in which students have the opportunity to participate in two plays, a musical and one act plays; students may also choose from numerous clubs to pursue their individual interests.

ABOUT THE JOB


Columbine High School has built a diverse visual and design arts program with many different course offerings for students to take including CTE, CE, and AP courses. Our goal within the Visual and Design Arts is to provide an outlet for students to explore their creativity, passions, and prepare them for the next step in their journey after high school.

This position would be focused on the digital media arts which includes graphic design, animation, and video production. Each of these classes are taught in a brand-new Mac lab with Cintiqs and have access to large format printing. As well as a studio that is attached to the classroom for video-production that is equipped with high end audio and video equipment. Columbine is also a 1-to-1 school. Students will have access to online platforms outside of the classroom, but within the classroom students will be trained in the Adobe Creative Cloud Suite in programs such as Illustrator, Photoshop, and Premiere Pro.

**Annual salary noted above is based on an 8 hour day and full days worked calendar. Any position that is less than a full FTE/8 hours per day or late start will be prorated accordingly.

RESPONSIBILITIES


SUMMARY: Responsible for the delivery of specified course content. Responsible for providing an educational atmosphere where students have the opportunity to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, and psychological growth. This person is responsible for organizing and implementing an instructional program that results in students achieving academic success.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Orient students to their coursework and communicate course requirements.

  • Employ asynchronous and synchronous tools to supplement course content.

  • Create and deliver live and recorded instructional sessions.

  • Maintain regular office hours to provide students or parents one-on-one and small group support.

  • Augment course content in the form of remediation, modification, and enrichment.

  • Partner with special education staff to implement student's IEPs, ALPs and 504s.

  • Set deadlines for student work and grant extensions.

  • Attend face-to-face meetings with students and parent/guardian, as scheduled.

  • Grade student work, enter grades into an online gradebook, and provide course grade.

  • Communicate with parents as needed.

  • Collaborate with other instructional staff.

  • Administer school-wide assessments including CSAP, ACT, and Acuity.

  • Conduct student/parent/teacher conferences.

  • Attend (virtual and physical) and actively participate in all required staff meetings and professional development.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE Experience with curriculum, assessment, staff development, and online learning. Previous experience or current thinking about culturally responsive teaching that relates to achievement issues for all students. Demonstrated success using technology to ensure technological literate students.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING Valid Colorado teaching license or certificate. Advanced degree or comparable experience in content area.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, & EQUIPMENT Must possess demonstrated skills in classroom and online implementation of best practices in instructional strategies, demonstrated success in working with learners, proficiency with Blackboard, and experience with leading online learning. Demonstrated leadership skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Knowledge of
standard District technology, ability to effectively and efficiently use for a variety of purposes, and demonstrated success in using technology and information literacy in instruction. Willingness to learn new technology. Ability to help others make sense of and adjust to change. Must be flexible and have capacity for dealing with ambiguity. Willingness to work a flexible schedule. Must be able to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines. Demonstrated ability in interpreting assessment data collected from a variety of sources.
