Location: Erie 1 BOCES Special Education Winchester Academy West Seneca, NY
Annual Salary: Based on certification and experience*
Hours: 7:30 AM - 2:30 PM
Job Responsibilities: Develops in each pupil an understanding of the relationship of good body function and exercise; motivates each pupil to cultivate physical fitness, hygienic habits, and good social and emotional adjustment; discovers and develops talents of pupils in physical achievement; develops strength, skill, agility, poise, and coordination in individual, dual, and team physical activities and sports, in accordance with each pupil's ability and in conjunction with each child's teacher/therapist.
Specific Duties: 1. Teaches knowledge and skills in physical fitness, health education, utilizing course of study adopted by the Board of Education and other appropriate learning activities.

• Provides consultation to other Physical Education instructors in component districts.
• Selects and requisitions equipment, and instructional aids; maintains required inventory records.
• Evaluates each pupil's growth in physical skills.
• Provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil, to the extent feasible.
• Analyzes, demonstrates, and explains basic skills, knowledge, and strategies of games, rhythms, and fundamentals of body movement.
• Maintains professional competence through Inservice education provided by the district, and in self-selected professional growth activities.
• Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
• Communicates with parents and school personnel on pupil progress.
• Provides appropriate safety instruction and makes safety checks on equipment and field areas to ensure the overall safety of pupils.
• Teaches physical education classes for students with disabilities.
• Works cooperatively with classroom teacher and therapists in planning a balanced physical education program.
• Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive environment in the physical education areas.
• Maintains control of storage and use of physical education equipment.

Job Qualifications

• Must hold valid New York State Teaching Certification in Physical Education
• Special Education and primary grade experience preferred
