BISHOP KENNY HIGH SCHOOL
TEACHER - CHEMISTRY & BIOLOGY

FLSA: Exempt
Reports to: Principal
General Summary: Under the direction of the school principal, is responsible for supporting the Diocese of St. Augustine in its mission to educate, evangelize and catechize youth in a Catholic school environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Builds the school’s faith community by a demonstrated willingness to participate and help plan school religious and service-related activities.
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned.
  • Recognizes and supports the unique Catholic mission of the school by speaking, acting, and instructing consistent with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church. The teacher may not espouse any doctrine inconsistent with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.
  • Establishes a consistent classroom management approach that promotes self-direction and a positive self-image. Sets high standards for student behavior and manages inappropriate behavior effectively, in accordance with school policy.
  • Adheres to all diocesan and school policies and regulations, while supporting the school’s spiritual, pastoral and educational mission.
  • Works collaboratively with the principal to build the faith community, giving evidence of the lived Gospel values by personal example and by being an active member of a faith community.
  • Demonstrates effective planning skills by preparing lesson plans designed to implement and achieve academic goals and objectives, as adopted by the school.
  • Integrates Catholic religious curriculum, as articulated by the school.
  • Demonstrates and effectively communicates knowledge and competency of academic and religious curriculum; ability to organize learning materials to maximize time, as well as engage and motivate students.
  • Works collaboratively in a positive, friendly and professional manner.
  • Maintains physical and informational security at all times, respecting confidentiality and privacy.
  • Participates in continuous professional development as a lifelong learner.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
  • Ability to respect, promote, accommodate, and not be in conflict with the mission, moral and social teachings, doctrines and laws of the Roman Catholic faith in the way one speaks, acts and instructs.
  • Must have or be able to obtain within two years Basic Diocesan Ministry Certification.
  • Proficient in use of computer technology, including school-related software.
  • Practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church and registered member of a Catholic parish faith community is preferred (for some teaching positions this is required; consult with the school principal).
  • Ability to have flexibility in assessing needs and strategies and adapt appropriately.
  • Must consistently demonstrate a positive, friendly, respectful and caring attitude with colleagues, the public, and all one serves in word and deed.
  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate school-related events.
  • Must maintain Professional Educator certification in the State of Florida.
  • Must successfully pass the required criminal background check prior to employment and every five years; must complete Protecting God’s Children (PGC) workshop prior to employment.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, vendors, employees, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
