The Teacher Aide is a member of the teaching team who assists with the implementation of classroom activities, under the direct supervision of an Assistant Teacher, Teacher, or Lead Teacher. Teacher aides perform daily routine tasks that establish the basic foundation for a healthy, safe, and educational environment. Teacher Aides include student teachers, work/study students, summer work students, senior workers, and volunteers. Accountability: The Teacher Aide reports to the Lead Teacher. Exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.
Job Responsibilities:
1. To establish and maintain a safe and healthy learning environment.
2. Promotes healthy eating practices.
3. Maintains a clean and safe environment Is aware of necessary information to ensure the safety and well- being of the children.
4. Maintains an orderly learning environment.
5. To advance physical and intellectual competence.
6. Supports a balance between child-initiated and teacher initiated activities.
7. Supports a balance between quiet and active learning activities.
8. Uses equipment and materials for indoor and outdoor play that promotes children's physical development.
9. Supports an integrated curriculum that meets the needs of individual children.
10. Supports experiences that promote language and literacy development.
11. Supports activities that promote the acquisition of math and science concepts.
12. Assist with extra - curricular programs such as music, gymnastics, swimming, etc. To support social and emotional development and provide positive guidance.
13. Supports activities that develop positive self-esteem.
14. Supports activities that develop social skills.
15. Supports culturally diverse experiences.
16. Uses and promotes positive guidance techniques.
17. Supports a wide variety of creative and expressive activities.
18. Supports routines with smooth transition periods.
19. Communicates with children at their developmental level.
20. Encourages children to be independent.
21. To establish positive and productive relationships with families: Greets parents at pick up and drop off times
22. Supports positive relationships with families: Supports a variety of ways that families can participate in the program.
23. To maintain a commitment to professionalism.
24. Promotes the center's philosophy and educational objectives.
25. Support the center's code of ethical conduct.
26. Engages ongoing staff development to improve personal and professional goals.
27. Supports the professional growth and development of colleagues by sharing materials and information and providing helpful feedback and encouragement
28. Attends staff meetings, workshops, and in-service training provided by the center.
