Performs duties related to daily property tax transactions, including customer service and payment processing; performs duties related to the deposit of funds from County offices and departments; performs related functions as required.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:

A Tax Data Clerk performs routine tasks in the receipt, deposit and accounting of property taxes and County funds under general supervision on the Tax Collection Supervisor.

Essential Functions

  • Prepares documentation for refunds or tax adjustments;
  • Receives and processes payments by check, cash and electronic methods;
  • Assists in opening mail, scanning, and other data entry tasks;
  • Prepares daily deposits;
  • Assists the Tax Collection Supervisor in the tax deed and warrant of distraint processes;
  • Assists in maintaining county records and documents;
  • Accepts and processes deposits from County departments and Offices;
  • Accurately maintains and balances cash drawer within assignment limits;
  • Properly records property tax payments;
  • Assists in verifying taxes are current and the signage of mylar forms for new subdivision recordings.
  • Greets and assists taxpayers with property tax payments and inquiries;

  • Performs related duties as required.

Job Requirements

  • Ability to handle, count, and balance large amounts of money;
  • Skill in organizing and accurately accomplishing assigned work;
  • Ability to use the telephone with appropriate etiquette when dealing with taxpayers and others;
  • High school diploma or equivalent, some college education preferred;
  • Ability to listen to the questions being asked and determine the information necessary to satisfy the questioner’s real and/or stated need;
  • Must be able to work independently.
  • Skill in operating a personal computer in a Windows, networked environment;
  • Skill in problem-solving techniques;
  • Ability to maintain harmonious working relationships with other employees;
  • Ability to follow verbal and written directions;
  • Skill in operating a 10-key calculator;
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing;
  • Ability to conduct thorough and detailed research;
  • Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office programs;
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment;
  • Ability to interpret and apply guidelines, rules, regulations, and laws as they apply to financial, tax collection, accounting, and bankruptcy matters;
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality;

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
  • This position is subject to blackout dates during peak tax collection periods.
  • The Tax Data Clerk is required to learn the property tax collection process to assist taxpayers as needed. This includes duties such as answering the telephone and opening, sorting the mail and providing backup coverage. These duties are essential functions of this position year-round;
  • The incumbent may be subject to a criminal records check.
  • Must pass the pre-employment drug screening;

Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • Requires sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes, which permits the employee to function in a general office environment to accomplish tasks.
  • May be required to lift up to 20 lbs.;
  • Work is performed primarily in an office environment and the employee in this class is subject to inside environmental conditions;
