Job Description

General Purpose:
The Systems Engineer is responsible for planning, implementing, and maintaining new and existing systems and infrastructure. They ensure reliability, scalability, supportability, and security of the firm’s cloud-based and physical infrastructure and application solutions. The Systems Engineer uses their advanced technology and automation skills to meet the demands of a rapidly evolving technologies, while relentlessly pursuing opportunities to advance our operational effectiveness and increase end user satisfaction.

They will also work closely with end users, development teams, and project teams in the planning, implementation, and support phases of business and technology projects as well as the day to day administration of existing systems. These activities include, but are not limited to, the definition of requirements, benefits, and technical strategy, research & development, technical analysis and design, and support of operations staff in implementing, testing and deploying technology solutions.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Act as a technical escalation point and provide Level 3 support for network related issues and requests
  • Ensure security best practices are used to protect systems, infrastructure, and sensitive networks
  • Identify ways to improve stability, scalability, and performance of systems and infrastructure
  • Create and maintain documentation with a focus on detail
  • Works as part of an on-call rotation
  • Design, build, support a hybrid IT environment including but not limited to physical/virtual servers, storage, networking, applications, monitoring, security, and cloud services
  • Partner/collaborate with application and security teams to develop a secure technical environment
  • Schedule and perform software and hardware improvements, upgrades, patches, and reconfigurations
  • Day-to-day management of the company’s systems, including implementation, administration, architecture, and design including administration and documentation of those systems
  • Leverage existing and emerging technologies to develop solutions that improve the performance of the overall infrastructure of the company
  • Work independently and under the supervision of the manager of IT Infrastructure
  • Develop a deep understanding of industry trends and competitive advantages
  • Plan for and implement disaster recovery/business continuity solutions
  • Work with 3rd party vendors and outside consultants as business needs require
  • Review, create, and maintain support documentation including documenting operational processes
  • Participate in asset management lifecycle including procurement, inventory tracking, utilization, and disposition of hardware and software
  • Maintain current and thorough knowledge of modern technologies, such as route/switch
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested
  • Assist and train Support Technicians and other IT staff on the troubleshooting and resolution of system issues
  • Monitor system health and troubleshoot, resolve, and escalate issues when necessary
  • Document, track and monitor issues via ticket tracking system to ensure a timely resolution

Job Qualifications (Education, Experience and Certification):

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Science, or other relevant degree and 5 years IT experience implementing and/or administering Windows based systems in an enterprise environment or,Associate’s Degree in above listed or other relevant degree and 3 to 6 years IT experience implementing and/or administering Windows based systems in an enterprise environment or,

5 to 8 years IT experience implementing and/or administering Windows based systems in an enterprise environment.

  • Experience documenting and maintaining configuration and process information
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the business including peers, technical management, and/or external vendors
  • Experience with monitoring tools such as Solarwinds, Nagios, PRTG etc.
  • Experience with data management and storage protocols (CIFS,SMB,NAS,Block,etc.)
  • Experience with various storage technologies and vendors (NAS, SAN, Cisco UCS, HPE, NetApp, etc.)
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience implementing and/or administering Windows Server in an enterprise environment
  • Experience with virtualization technologies such as VMWare/Hyper-V including vCenter, ESXi, DRS
  • Experience with Active Directory (GPOs, OUs, ADFS, Sites and Services, etc.)
  • Demonstrated excellence in organizational abilities, ability to prioritize and follow up on open issues and projects with a sense of urgency
  • Experience working in a compliant environment (PCI, HIPPA, ISO, etc.)
  • Experience with enterprise backup solutions (Zerto, Veeam, Acronis, Azure, etc.)
  • Hands on software and hardware troubleshooting experience in the datacenter
  • Ability to automate processes with scripting (PowerShell, Python, etc.)
  • Good understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives
  • Technical certification(s) (MCSE, ITIL, CCT Data Center, etc.)
  • Minimum 5 years in the implementation of cloud technologies including SaaS, PaaS, and IaaS models
  • Familiar with configuration management tools (Microsoft SCCM, DSC , etc.)

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this position, the employee must have the ability to sit, stand and/or walk for extended periods of time; manipulate (lift, carry, move) weights of at least fifty (50) pounds; have repetitive wrist/hand/finger movement to work on a computer and/or related office equipment; speak clearly and concisely so listeners can understand; and regularly understand the speech of another person.

  • Light to moderate lifting is required
  • Regular, predictable in-person attendance is required
  • Ability to uphold the stress of traveling and withstand moderate noise (i.e. business office with computers, phone, printers, and traffic)
  • Ability to work in a confined area
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard for extended periods of time. Also, stoop and kneel to access record files
