System Administrator Job Overview: Performs system administration, setup, configuration, installation, upgrades, patching, advanced troubleshooting, and preventative/remedial maintenance for datacenter server and compute environments, platform connectivity, voice communications infrastructure/systems, and monitoring systems. Supports complex technology projects in accordance with established project management methodology.


System Administrator Duties And Responsibilities

Depending on assigned area of responsibility, incumbents in the position may perform one or more of the activities described below:


  • Acts as a project team member or leader when required to support new systems, services and process improvement initiatives.
  • Provides Tier-3 technical support for escalated complex issues in supporting multiple infrastructure platforms related to virtualized enterprise compute environments, datacenter operations, platform connectivity, security best practices, voice communications infrastructure/systems, monitoring systems, and lifecycle standards.
  • Participates in business restoration activities, as needed, after significant events.
  • Drives an LCEC vehicle to remote locations to deliver, pickup, install and/or troubleshoot equipment problems.
  • Is able to lift industry standard server equipment to lifecycle physical systems.
  • Performs remedial troubleshooting, preventative/remedial maintenance, installation, configuration, upgrades, and reliable operation for enterprise compute environments, datacenter operations, platform connectivity, security best practices, voice communications infrastructure/systems, monitoring systems, and lifecycle standards.
  • Provides technical debugging and troubleshooting for escalated complex issues in supporting multiple infrastructure platforms related to enterprise applications and databases.
  • Develops, edits, and presents technical designs, system diagrams, project plans and other technical reports.
  • Engineers solutions using established technology standards to develop multi-platform hardware/software solutions for virtualized enterprise compute environments, datacenter operations, platform connectivity, security best practices, voice communications infrastructure/systems, monitoring systems, and lifecycle standards.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by Supervisor.
  • Works with vendors, clients, and other technical staff to resolve technical issues related to vendor-specific supported infrastructure including network circuits.


System Administrator Ideal Candidate


  • Minimum four (4) years’ experience developing, editing, and presenting technical designs, systems diagrams, project plans and other technical reports.
  • Active VMware and/or Microsoft certifications are preferred.
  • Advanced VMware/vSphere/ESX/NSX knowledge is preferred.
  • Minimum four (4) years’ System Administration/Engineering experience.
  • Valid Florida Driver’s License and ability to operate vehicle to deliver, pickup, install and /or troubleshoot equipment issues.
  • Minimum four (4) years’ experience in server administration, installation, setup, configuration, upgrades, advanced troubleshooting for enterprise compute environments, platform connectivity, LAN connectivity, security best practices, voice communications infrastructure/systems (including Voice Over IP), monitoring systems, and enterprise data backup infrastructure.
  • Minimum eight (8) years’ enterprise server administration/engineering experience providing design, installation, setup, configuration, upgrades, and advanced complex troubleshooting for Windows Server 2019, VMware vSphere/ESX environments, MS Exchange 2019, advanced Active Directory management, DNS/DHCP server management, capacity and storage planning.
  • Ability to multi-task and handle multiple competing projects & task priorities.
  • Bachelor’s Degree Information Technology (an equivalent combination of education, work experience and current certifications may considered in lieu of a degree).
  • Minimum four (4) years’ experience managing complex enterprise technology projects in accordance with project management methodologies.

STORM DUTY REQUIREMENTS.... Responding to storms will be considered a condition of employment: LCEC provides critical services to our community during an emergency. Employees are required to participate in the response/recovery activities related to emergencies/disasters to maintain service to our LCEC members.
