The Raritan Bay Area YMCA is currently accepting applications/resumes for an Aquatics Swim Instructor.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic urban, growing organization just 5 miles west of New York City in the water front city of Perth Amboy. The Raritan Bay Area YMCA has served the ever-evolving needs of our community since 1912. We enthusiastically serve over 5,000 members in the Raritan Bay area in our community building initiatives through Healthy Living, Youth Development and Social Responsibility.

Under the direction of the Aquatics Director, the Swim Instructor will follow the guidelines of the YMCA Swim Lesson Program and ensure that participants have a positive and safe learning environment. The Swim Instructor is responsible for teaching swim strokes by instructing, demonstrating, and encouraging class participants so that they may learn to the best of their ability.

The Swim Instructor also engages in and promotes the YMCA mission through the core values: Honesty, Caring, Responsibility and Respect.

Essential Functions:

  • Instructs swimming lessons in accordance with YMCA guidelines, having prepared lesson plans accordingly.
  • Trains and supervises class aides as assigned.
  • Maintains constant supervision of students, watch for swimmers needing assistance, and aid swimmers when necessary to ensure positive learning environment.
  • Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Be reliable, on time, and in proper uniform/equipment for each shift.
  • Develops positive relationships with members and participants and provides motivational support and guidance.
Requirements:
  • Experience in teaching swim lessons to both adults and children.
  • Ability to lift equipment; and to lift a small to average size child as needed.
