Job Description
Job Summary

Under general supervision, is responsible for operating surveying instruments to obtain field data necessary to complete land surveys; preparing measurements; staking center lines; and offsets for construction projects. Exercise no supervision.

Work Hours
7:45 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday - Friday

Essential Job Functions

  • Locates and identifies property corners.
  • Interprets and reduces survey field notes.
  • Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.
  • Obtains measurements by locating lines and points and maintains files.
  • Prepares and maintains inventory of equipment and materials.
  • Operates survey instruments to obtain field data.
  • Stakes and measures control points.
  • Operates manual and power tools to obtain data, occasionally lifting and carrying equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Calculates slopes, curve data, and grade changes.
  • Maintains files and records.
  • Utilizes a level rod to establish elevations.
  • Collects survey information and prepares field notes.
  • Draws and updates maps.

Job Requirements

  • Two (2) years of land surveying experience.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Valid Class "C" Drivers License.
Applicant Information
  • Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to operate survey instruments.
  • Ability to perform all physical requirements of the position, with or without accommodations.
  • Knowledge of land surveying principles and practices.
  • Ability to prepare field notes.
  • Knowledge of survey instruments and equipment.
  • Skill in utilizing a personal computer and associated software programs.
  • Knowledge of basic math as applied to survey work.
  • Ability to perform survey computations.
