Job Description
Summary Statement
Incumbent responsible for the delivery of USDA commodity foods statewide to schools, food pantries and senior centers. May also receive and ship orders from the state warehouse. Incumbent must have CDL A license and experience with forklifts, and other warehousing equipment.
Essential Functions
Essential functions are fundamental, core functions common to all positions in the class series and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties for any one position in the class. Since class specifications are descriptive and not restrictive, incumbents can complete job duties of similar kind not specifically listed here.
  • Maintains logs, records and accounts of transactions involving acquisition of Federal excess, surplus or reutilization property.
  • Arranges transport and/or picks up acquired property, securing all necessary transport permits; arranges for shipping and movement of large equipment.
  • Coordinates and/or prepares all paperwork necessary for property acquisition.
  • Schedules visits to a variety of Federal installations, tracks down items needed by the State and arranges for acquisition of requested items.
  • May maintain property and equipment inventories and coordinate equipment pools.
  • Drives heavy vehicles such as tractor-trailers and may load and unload equipment, vehicles and other property.
  • Interfaces with Federal and other State agencies regarding the distribution, screening and sale of Federal property.
  • Locates, screens, inspects and evaluates Federal excess, surplus or reutilization property available through various programs, such as the State Surplus Property Program or the Reutilization Program.
Job Requirements
JOB REQUIREMENTS for Surplus Properties Specialist
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:
  • Six months experience in inventory control such as ordering, receiving, tracking, storing and handling inventory; disbursing materials, supplies and equipment.
  • Six months experience in applying laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures.
  • Six months experience in record keeping.
  • Six months experience in operating heavy vehicles such as tractor trailers, 1 1/2 ton and 2 1/2 ton trucks or similar equipment.
  • Possession of a valid CDL Class A Driver's License (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).
