Job Description

Supply Chain Manager

Reports to: Sr. Director OEM Business and Production Planning / Vonore Plant Manager

Location: Vonore, TN

Travel: Less than 20%

Summary:

As the Supply Chain Manager, you will lead a team of approximately 20 to 25 individuals and be responsible for overseeing the production planning process, material forecasting, transportation coordination, and logistics activities to optimize material flow and throughput at our facility. You will supervise the Plant Scheduler, Plant Buyer, and Coordinators of Transportation and Logistics, setting goals and key performance metrics for their roles. Additionally, you will play a pivotal role in driving continuous improvement initiatives, reducing waste and cycle time, managing inventory levels, and optimizing labor utilization.

We are seeking candidates who have experience as part of a management team leading a significant operational turnaround, involving process, cultural, discipline, and profit transformation.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

  1. Production Planning Process:
  • Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the production planning process to align with business objectives and enhance material flow efficiency at the facility.
  1. Transportation and Logistics Coordination:
  • Supervise the Coordinators of Transportation and Logistics to plan and coordinate transportation activities for materials and products, both domestically and internationally, to achieve company goals.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, including U.S. Customs and Homeland Security, and provide support for trade advisor services and customs broker actions.
  1. Plant Scheduler and Plant Buyer:
  • Oversee the Plant Scheduler and Plant Buyer and their related activities, coordinating supplier releases and tracking vendor delivery performance.
  1. Inventory Management:
  • Implement and maintain a FIFO system for all components.
  • Adjust inventory levels based on customer demand while maintaining sufficient material safety stock.
  • Forecast usage of materials, maintain accurate inventory, and ensure adequate material safety stock.
  1. Communication and Leadership:
  • Be a visible leader on projects, setting goals and timelines, and instilling a sense of urgency.
  • Engage the team, share successes, and communicate progress and goals through meetings and town halls.
  • Contribute to employee training programs and establish a constructive dialogue with union members if applicable.

Qualifications:

  • Educational Background: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, or Operations. Advanced degrees and certifications are desired.
  • Personal Competencies: Strong problem-solving skills, self-motivated, adaptable, and able to work effectively in a multicultural environment. Excellent communication skills, including presentation abilities. Demonstrates leadership through influence and maintains integrity in all aspects of work.
  • Industry Experience: At least 10 years of experience in logistics and supply chain roles, with a minimum of 5 years in leadership positions within supply chain functions. Experience in a Tier One or Tier Two automotive supplier is preferred. Knowledge of state and federal transportation regulations and certifications in Six Sigma or ASQ are valued.
