Job Description

The Laboratory Operations Supervisor will supervise the day-to-day administrative operation of the Point of Care department and assist in validation of POC devices at offsite locations. Operation Supervisor will assist core lab supervisors with LIS validation, EOC tracer activities and collect and analyse QA, QI and KPI data. The individual is responsible for investigating ESRMs and implementing Performance Improvement initiatives. This individual will be liaison between POC department and Nursing to ensure staff competency is completed and all within compliance. The Operation Supervisor will monitor pending logs of each department to ensure timely reporting of results. This position will also provide support for nursing and laboratory personnel experiencing hardware and software problems related to specimen label printers and scanners related to the PPID process.

Essential Duties:

  • Responsible for the administrative management of the section and for assuring proficiency of staff, accurate, instrument operation, performance of maintenance and troubleshooting measures, quality control, quality assurance and proficiency testing.
  • Instructs, orients and completes orientation checklist for new employees. Communicates with employees on the day-to-day operations of all sections. Reviews implemented changes with all staff.
  • Provide a point of contact for all systems related issues both internal and external to the Hospital and the Department.
  • Manages complex projects or multiple projects of moderate complexity. Leverages knowledge and prior experience to develop appropriate solutions.
  • Work collaboratively with team to ensure the section and staff are prepared to meet accreditation requirements by licensing agencies.
  • Responsible for the day-to-day administrative operation duties.
  • Responsible for the departmental budget, employee relationships, customer service, performance improvement and maintaining intra and interdepartmental communication.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Provides input to annual Performance Appraisal review for staff. Assists in the process of commendations, counseling, interview and selection of employees.
  • Act as the system administrator for master control.
  • Review policy, procedure and protocol and revise as necessary to meet quality standards.
  • Facilitates working sessions to develop project plans (including timelines, milestones and budgets) and methodologies to measure and track financial impact. Identify and manage potential risks and liabilities of projects. Perform quality control on the project throughout development to maintain the standards expected.
  • Communicates information, assignments, priorities, and special requests to staff. Manages workload of staff. Monitors status of pending items and follow-ups, as needed.


Required Qualifications:

  • Req Excellent customer service skills for both internal and external customers
  • Req Ability to work well under pressure and adapt to changing situations.
  • Req High school or equivalent
  • Req Knowledge and proficiency using a personal computer and various software including Microsoft Word, Microsoft Project, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, Microsoft Outlook, Visio, SharePoint, and Microsoft PowerPoint
  • Req 1 year Previous experience in hospital/healthcare environment with lead/supervisory/managerial/major impact project development responsibilities
  • Req Must demonstrates skill and sound knowledge of laboratory processes.
  • Req Must demonstrate strong communication skills and establish positive intra-and interdepartmental relationships.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Pref Bachelor's degree Medical technology or Business or related science preferred
  • Pref Clinical Laboratory Point Of Care and IT experience preferred


Required Licenses/Certifications:

  • Req Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date. (Required within LA City only)

The annual base salary range for this position is $68,640.00 - $112,370.00.
