Responsibilities:
The Health and Fitness Supervisor will manage and operate company ergonomics and Security Police Officer (SPO) physical training and maintenance programs; utilize knowledge of health and human performance to create effective strategies and programs to improve the health and well-being of employees and reduce risk of injury; act as bridge between Occupational Medicine Division and Security and Emergency Services to ensure all parts of Title 10, Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), Part1046 (10 CFR 1046) are followed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement innovative solutions to correct ergonomic risk hazards found across the NNSS.
  • Ensure each facility meets applicable standards and guidelines to ensure safety and proper use of facilities. Ensure all fitness equipment is maintained and properly calibrated on an annual basis or as required.
  • Directly supervises individual contributors, including approving time, conducting performance evaluations, and participating in the recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training of staff.
  • Provide education and outreach across the NNSS. This includes presenting on topics pertaining to ergonomics such as equipment use, human biomechanical principles, and safe ergonomic practices.
  • Act as company Health and Fitness expert to include educational outreach and being a resource to upper management regarding health and fitness.
  • Maintain and track metrics related to random selection physical fitness testing.
  • Conduct ergonomic evaluations to include identifying and measuring physical job demands, identifying proper equipment design and use, identifying and eliminating poor body posture, and recommending improvements to design and use of employee workstations.
  • Maintain contracts and communication with outside vendors to ensure the best quality ergonomic equipment at the best price possible for MSTS.
  • Responsible for all facets of ergonomics program for the organization, ensuring accurate reporting of ergonomic risk factors, physical job demands, and ergonomic recommendations for change.
  • Establish activity level work assignments, organize and supervise day-to-day operations of Ergonomists and Health and Fitness Specialists, and ensure schedules are kept.
  • Responsible for company policy and maintenance of all company documents and forms related to ergonomics program and exercise facilities and equipment in accordance with federal laws, MSTS policy, and other regulatory agencies.
  • Manage health and fitness program for MSTS Fire and Rescue Service.
  • Provide full program management and supervisory responsibility of ergonomics division, physical job demand testing program, and SPO health and fitness staff.
  • Manage and maintain SPO physical readiness training and maintenance program in consultation with the Physical Protection Medical Director (PPMD) and local Officially Designated Federal Security Authority (ODFSA).
  • Act as a bridge between Occupational Medicine and Security & Emergency Services to open lines of communication regarding physical fitness qualification testing, scheduling of SPO annual physicals, and any other requirements of 10 CFR 1046.
  • Responsible for maintaining tracking and documentation of SPO participation in physical readiness training and maintenance program.
  • Conduct SPO physical fitness qualification tests as needed, as well as provide strength and conditioning training as necessary.
  • Establish key metrics and goals for the ergonomics program and SPO health and fitness program and monitor performance against these metrics and goals.
  • Provide training and technical guidance to ergonomists and SPO health and fitness staff being supervised.
  • Responsible for producing and maintaining testing requirements for specific job demands, proper reporting and documenting of testing results, and maintenance of functional testing equipment.
  • Provide detailed tracking and reporting of ergonomic evaluations performed across the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS), including but not limited to: job type, location, personnel involved, and outcome of ergonomic evaluations.
  • Perform other duties as required.
  • Responsible for ensuring MSTS follows all physical fitness requirements as directed by Title 10, Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), Part1046 (10 CFR 1046), including administration of physical fitness qualification tests, application of remedial training programs for SPOs who fail to meet fitness qualification standards, semiannual physical readiness assessments, and random Basic Readiness Standard (BRS) and Advanced Readiness Standard (ARS) SPO population physical readiness testing.
Qualifications:
Due to the nature of our work, US Citizenship is required for all positions.
  • Must have certification in ergonomics and fitness training.
  • Must be able to recall extensive policies, procedures, terminology, schedules, personnel, & other details.
  • Must be able to prioritize and schedule multiple activities of the department.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Bachelors' degree or equivalent training and experience, plus a minimum of 8 years of related and progressively responsible experience.
  • Work schedule for this position will be 4/10’s, Monday – Thursday (subject to change).
  • Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
  • Demonstrated experience to apply the knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies required to successfully perform the job.
  • Primary work location will be the Nevada National Security Site, with intermittent work at the North Las Vegas Facility.
  • Able to utilize independent judgment, creativity, and initiative to apply knowledge and experience to resolve problems and compose technical correspondence and reports.
  • Preferred experience in ergonomics, exercise physiology and kinesiology. Related experience in lieu of formal collegiate training can be considered.
  • Must be able to communicate with all types of people in a tactful, professional, and effective manner while screening and maintaining confidentiality.

Ability to obtain a HSPD-12 Personal Identity Verification credential under the Department of Energy Order 206.2, ‘ Identity, Credential, and Access Management,’ and Supplemental Directive NNSA SD 206.2, ‘ Implementation of Personal Identity Verification for Uncleared Contractors.’
