This position coordinates scheduling of buses for Body Shop, Vendors, Engineering, other special work requirements and monitors maintenance activities to ensure deadlines are met and work quality complies with current standards. This is a safety-sensitive position subject to the rules of the Drug and Alcohol Policy.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential:
  • Recruits staff to include interviewing, hiring, assigning work, training, coaching, and counseling to ensure consistent application of Employee Guidelines, processes, and procedures.
  • Monitors and follows up on coach and equipment warranty issues and researches for parts and vendors. Purchases parts and emergency services as needed.
  • Supervises union employees, monitors daily workload of the body shop, assigns work, monitors progress and quality of repairs.
  • The Body Shop Supervisory consults with labor relations and manages in accordance with RTD policies and procedures and the current Collective Bargaining Agreement
  • Responsible for safety and PPE compliance in all aspects of repair/fabrication in the body shop work areas.
  • Conducts scheduled inspections of work area to ensure fleet equipment, tooling, inventory and facilities are maintained in clean, safe and functional operating condition.
  • Ensures compliance with Local, State and Federal regulations, including but not limited to DOT, CVSA Out of Service Requirements, Fire Department regulations, FMLA and ADA

  • All job-related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Use of spray painting equipment and spray painting techniques.
  • A minimum of one year supervisory experience in transit/vehicle maintenance operation, including supervision in a union environment preferred.
  • Knowledge of all types of welding and welding equipment including steel, aluminum, and gas.
  • Fiberglass repairs.
  • Cutting and fitting of all types of body glass.
  • Metal fabrication methods and equipment.
  • Associate Degree in related technical field preferred.
  • Major and minor repair and/or rebuilding of bus, equipment, and automotive bodies and frames.
  • Ability to manage time and workload effectively which includes planning, organizing, and prioritizing with attention to details.
  • Ability to use sound judgment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • A minimum of five years experience in the repair, fabrication, rebuilding, and painting of heavy duty equipment, bus, and automotive bodies and components. Nature of experience to include:
  • Ability to work various shifts and locations.
  • Ability to learn to navigate in Oracle, Workday, and Maximus within three months of hire.
  • General knowledge of vehicle mechanics including general repair, body work, pneumatics, electrical, hydraulics, gas & diesel engines, etc. Knowledge of safety procedures, HAZMAT and MSDS.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, including ability to translate technical information into lay language and vice versa.
