Job Description
SUPERVISOR, ATHLETIC TRAINER – SPORTS MED Marietta Memorial Hospital, 401 Matthew Street, Marietta, Ohio, United States of America Req #4488 Thursday, June 29, 2023 Status: Full Time – 80 hours Hours: Varies as scheduled In an environment of continuous quality improvement, the Supervisor, Athletic Trainer Provides direct supervision to professionals or skilled technical employees at the entry or intermediate level. Functions as advisor to the high school sports medicine department and MHCPI leadership and sets goals and objectives for team members for achievement of operational results. Analyzes and resolves problems with the Athletes and the health systems best interest. Interprets policies (e.g., fiscal management, HR, contracts and grants, resource management in defined areas) and demonstrates solid subject matter knowledge. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and policies to determine appropriate action. Supervises staff to assure accountability and stewardship of resources (operational, financial, and human) in compliance with departmental goals and objectives. Exhibits the MHS Standards of Excellence and exercises strict confidentiality at all times. Job Requirement: Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Athletic Training required. Minimum 5 years of experience as high school athletic trainer required. Licensure in the State of Ohio and West Virginia as an Athletic Trainer required. BOC certification required. BLS certification required. Demonstrated leadership skills. Excellent verbal, presentation, and written communication skills. A high level of communication skills and the ability to work well with staff, student-athletes, physicians, and parents. Requires excellent time management and delegation skills, excellent eye/hand coordination, manual dexterity, and basic numeral skills. Job Functions: Manages high school contracts, ensuring contractual obligations are met, billing is complete timely, and prepares contracts to be renewed annually. Fosters strong relationships with contracted high schools to ensure expectations are being met and any issues are resolved timely. Actively participates in community events, career fairs, and speaking engagements being an ambassador of the sports medicine program and the health system. Collaborates with marketing ensuring program growth and community awareness. Collaborates with Director to achieve efficiency and effectiveness of daily operations implementing cost-effective systems for the delivery of quality patient care and appropriate utilization of resources to minimize variance from budget. Participates in the development of department goals, monitors, and reports performance to Director. Ensures all staff members understand their roles in accomplishing programmatic objectives, are aware of system and department goals and strive to exceed. Ensures the growth and continuous improvement of staff through annual validation, chart audits, in-service education, and communicating changes of regulatory governing bodies (NATA, OTPTAT, OSHAA, NFHS). Maintains records/logs on staff annual competencies, education, orientation, absenteeism, etc. and assure compliance with system policies, personnel policies, and other appropriate policies, standards. Fosters patient/athlete relations standards that reflect excellence and ensures all staff members are held accountable for adhering to these standards. Maintains strong provider relations through open communication and collaboration. Travels between assigned sites as needed to meet job expectations. Provides the required coverage of sporting events and performs Athletic Trainer duties when performing in an Athletic Training capacity. Has the authority and responsibility to hire, transfer, suspend, lay off, recall, promote, discharge, assign, reward, discipline, direct, or recommend such actions by using independent judgment. Completes and conducts employee performance evaluations based on direct observation of their employee’s job performance. Assumes all other duties and responsibilities as necessary.
