Description
The Cleveland Museum of Art seeks a full-time temporary Summer Camp Studio Assistant to provide hands-on assistance with material and room preparation, set-up, program facilitation, and clean-up for the CMA’s Summer Creativity Camps. In addition, the Studio Assistant will be involved in the planning and preparation process leading up to the start of camps in June, working on project teams with assigned Teaching Artists and Gallery Teachers.
Requirements and Key Competencies
Must have a high school diploma or general education degree (GED) and a valid driver’s license or other official form of identification. Experience with studio art, art education, and working with the public, including school-aged children preferred. University students enrolled in studio, art history, or art education programs are encouraged to apply.
The employee must also be able to communicate effectively and work successfully with others.
Responsibilities
Summer Camp Studio Assistants will help to engage youth audiences in social artmaking and community-building creative experiences during the CMA’s Summer Creativity Camps. Studio Assistants will be thoughtful and encouraging in their approach, modeling play and experimentation with materials and topics related to the CMA’s permanent collection and special exhibitions.
Camps run for six weeks over the summer, Monday through Friday. Ideal candidates will be available for all six weeks, and for select meetings and trainings leading up to the start of camp. Program dates include:
- July 24-28
- July 31-August 4
- June 19-23
- July 17-21
- June 26-30
- July 10-14
Responsibilities:
- Attend project team preparatory meetings leading up to the start of camp.
- Liaise with Teaching Artists and Gallery Teachers to make sure there is clear communication between all parties and weekly projects and lessons are cohesive.
- During camp days, assist with class/event setup, preparation, and cleanup.
- Greet and welcome camp families into the museum/studio/community environment.
- Help facilitate program activities by engaging, encouraging, and providing instructional support for participating children and families.
- Anticipate needs as they arise, taking initiative.
- Maintain and organize CMA’s studio spaces, storage areas, supplies and resources.
- Take daily attendance and report back to Manager of Youth and Family Engagement.
- Engage participants in satisfaction surveys during classes as assigned and when appropriate.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
