This Opportunity

Our interns gain exposure to real projects while working side by side with senior staff. Our Planning & Environmental Review Group is seeking a Summer 2023 Urban Planning Intern to work out of our New York, NY office. This position is seeking currently enrolled Undergraduate students.

Your Impact

• Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
• Work on transportation, land-use/development, regulatory, or public policy projects in New York City.
• Learn basic principles of Urban Planning.
• Assist in collecting and maintaining project documentation.
• Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
• Support a variety of planning tasks with the goal to develop technical, social, and ethical skills.
• Support preparation of final design plans, special provisions, and cost estimates.
• Produce planning products including analysis, mapping, reports, estimates and process guides.
• Please note that there is no relocation or housing assistance associated with this internship.
• Complete training on assigned tasks.
• Assist with project research, field work, and preliminary design calculations and analysis.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

• Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
• Authorization to work in the United States at the start of the internship
• Actively enrolled in an accredited Urban Planning, Transportation Engineering, Environmental Studies, Urban Design, Public Policy, or related Undergraduate program.
• Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
• Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
• Capable of taking direction from leadership, mentors, and managers to executive projects.
• Demonstrated interest in Urban Planning, Transportation Planning, Urban Design, or related field, and have a strong desire to advance skills related to WSP’s work and projects.

Preferred Qualifications

• Strong analysis, mapping, writing and communication abilities are encouraged.
• Please note that there is no relocation or housing assistance associated with this internship.
• Prior internship and leadership involvement on campus.
• Experience using GIS Mapping software, familiarity with New York City, writing and organizational skills.

Expected Salary: $16.00 - $25.00 per hour
