SUICIDE PREVENTION LIAISON
Columbia, Missouri
Job Overview
This position will work to mitigate risk factors and suicidality through prevention and early intervention with a focus on Zero Suicide care pathway client follow-ups, education, and engagement to improve the response time to high risk clients. The Suicide Prevention Specialist, using evidence-informed suicide prevention practices, works as a team member within the Crisis Department to ensure client needs are met.
What You'll Get To Do
  • Serve as a member of the Crisis Team by providing immediate crisis intervention services via phone and/or face-to-face as needed. Complete documentation as needed.
  • Collaborate with service providers, treatment teams, hospitals, law enforcement, and other community stakeholders regarding clients who have been or are currently experiencing suicidality or have recently attempted. Will follow-up as needed with clients who have been discharged from the hospital due to suicidality.
  • Attend Ad-Hoc Risk Management/Death Reviews for suicide attempts and/or any deaths by suicide. Will be an active member of the Zero Suicide Committee.
  • Promote and provide education to agency staff and community stakeholders regarding suicidality: lethal means, knowledge of risk factors, warning signs and intervention strategies for suicide prevention. Will work with agency staff on internal suicide risk assessments within the EHR to ensure accuracy and fidelity
  • Work closely with the Quality Management department on tracking outcomes and data aggregation regarding suicidality for both the youth and adult populations.
  • Oversee agency suicide care pathway and complete follow-ups with clients by phone according to established pathway protocol. Monitor and track data information, complete data tracking reports and document all required information in the electronic health record (EHR). Will reach out to service providers regarding safety plans for clients at risk. Will work closely with members of the Crisis Services teams to coordinate care as needed.
Qualifications
  • CPR/First Aid and CPI certified
  • Bachelor’s Degree in the Human services field (Master’s degree preferred)
  • Knowledge and skills in assessing, triaging, and treating suicidality; crisis intervention; effective oral and written communication skills; problem solving/decision making/clinical judgment; time management; computer/electronic medical record knowledge
