Job Description

The Subject Matter Expert is responsible for working with SRM instructional designers and client stakeholders to develop an online graduate program in health care management. They will be responsible for developing program competencies aligned with national standards, structuring the sequence of courses, and writing course-level learning objectives to align with the program. They will work with an SRM instructional designer to develop course syllabi and supporting materials for the LMS.

Initial contracts will include program planning and have a 4–6-week duration with the possibility of additional contracts for building courses upon successful completion and approval of program planning documents. SRM will provide course names, course descriptions, and expectations from accrediting bodies. This is a part-time project averaging 25 hours per week but will require limited availability for weekly meetings 9 a.m.–5 p.m. ET. Candidates should be available to begin work immediately upon hire.

Essential Job Functions

CONTENT KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERTISE

· Understanding of the business side of health care systems, including marketing, operations, and management of technology

· Up-to-date knowledge of major issues and developments in health care administration

· Experience designing or developing courses and programs in a higher education context

· Experience implementing project-based learning or experiential learning theory in course design

CORE TASKS

· Develop programmatic competencies for assigned program, if not set by an accrediting body

· Establish a clear sequence of courses for the program including designating prerequisites

· Develop course descriptions and learning objectives for all courses to be offered in assigned programs

· Ensure alignment between course-level learning objectives and programmatic competencies

· Create course outlines, select textbooks, develop assignments and assessment strategies

· Align course materials and content to accreditation needs

SRM WILL PROVIDE

· Templated expectations for content delivery

· Program descriptions

· Course list and descriptions

· Instructional designers to review all documents and work collaboratively to resolve pedagogical concerns

· Coordination with the client to ensure deliverables meet expectations

EXPECTATIONS

· Produce clean content with few, if any, grammatical and stylistic errors

· Produce clearly worded, logically organized course content that meets client expectations

· Produce content that aligns with approach, tone, and format of the program/project

· Follow client and instructional design guidelines

· Incorporate client and instructional design feedback accurately

· Ensure that content from outside vendors or other internal staff is accurate and contains clear, engaging, and pedagogically sound instruction

· Effectively communicate internally and externally, maintaining regular touchpoints with project or team staff

· Maintain self-organization sufficient to promptly answer queries from team or client

· Recognize and escalate issues of scope and approval criteria

REQUIREMENTS

· PhD in a related subject area

· Ability to bring industry experience to bear on curricular development

· Excellent people skills

· Demonstrated ability to perform well under pressure

· Excellent problem-solving skills; ability to see the big picture

· Self-discipline

AVAILABILITY

· Available for the duration of the project (September 2023–October 2023)

· Some connectivity during standard ET business hours (9 a.m.–5 p.m. M–F) will be required
