HANAC, Inc. – originally founded by George Douris as the Hellenic American Neighborhood Action Committee – is a New York City-based multi-faceted social services organization. The organization was founded in 1972 to serve the needs of vulnerable populations throughout New York City.

Provides transportation to older adults for individual and group rides to grocery shopping, stores, museums, community centers, and social events and gatherings.

Rate of pay: $18.50

Schedule: ON CALL/AS NEEDED

Location: 27-40 Hoyt Avenue South, Astoria, NY 11102

Essential Functions and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Pick up vehicle and return it to the garage at the end of the day;
• Ensure the safety of clients on board by requiring the use of seatbelts, wheelchair
• Brackets, and other safety devices;
• Inspect vehicles daily and report any operational or structural defects to
• Organize vehicle repair log in maintenance books;
• Answering the phone, communicating with older adults, recording
• Maintain vehicle in clean and operating condition;
• Collects participants’ contributions daily;
• Sanitize the bus after every individual and group ride;
• Supervisor;
• Additional tasks that may be required;
• Oversee routine maintenance, repairs, and cleaning of vehicle (fuel, oil
• Safely transport older adults to and from group trips as scheduled;
• Legibly complete passenger log on a daily basis;
• Perform administrative tasks in the office when required. Tasks include
• Maintain gasoline and mileage records daily;
• Changes, tires, etc.);
• Assist clients onto and off the van, when necessary and can determine that need;
• Contributions, contacting car service companies;

Qualifications:

• Drivers must maintain the Department of Transportation medical certificate with yearly testing.
• 2 years of driving experience
• Must submit an attestation disclosing your COVID-19 vaccination status and, if partially or fully vaccinated, submit your vaccination record no later than 7 days following commencement of employment.
• Should have knowledge of the northern Queens area, particularly the College Point, Whitestone, Flushing, and Bayside areas.
• Ability to read, write, and speak the English language. Additional language is preferable, but not required
• Clean, valid NYS Driver's License
• High School Diploma or GED is a must
