Application Instructions
Please list all professional experience and explain any gaps in employment history. All of your application materials, which may include PDF files of work samples and/or links to audio, video, photography or graphics, must be uploaded to the field labeled Resume/Cover Letter/Work Samples to be considered for the position.

The Washington Post is looking for a talented writer to join our Features team and be the primary author of an ambitious new email product that aims to inform our readers on the key stories of the day across media, entertainment, politics and fashion. We are looking for a writer with experience reporting on the conversation of the moment who can add sophistication, style and fresh information to the news of the day.
You’ll work with our editors on voice, pitch and cadence and with our audience team to design a product that is compelling and necessary. The ideal candidate has a sense of where we can innovate in approach and tone and should be as comfortable reporting on a media controversy or writing a sharp analysis of a buzzy pop culture moment as they are digging into open rates. A distinct voice and a deep roster of contacts are also valued. As the Style newsletter evolves, there could be opportunities to include the writer’s own reported scoops.
Responsibilities:
  • Contribute to additional Style projects if assigned.
  • Collaborate with the Newsletter Strategy, Product and Style teams to develop newsletter features and sections.
  • Use analytics tools to monitor reader engagement and adjust content as needed.
  • Be the primary author of the Style section’s flagship newsletter, focusing on commentary, analysis and original reporting.
Please consider applying if you meet most of these criteria:
  • You have a track record of writing about media, entertainment, politics, power and fashion.
  • You possess excellent news judgment and communication skills.
  • You have written a newsletter and understand how writing stories for the web and the inbox differ.
  • You are able to work independently and meet deadlines.
Candidates should upload a résumé and cover letter to our jobs portal. All application materials can be uploaded to the same field. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled, but those received by 07/31/2023 will be prioritized. The cover letter should be addressed to Executive Features Editor Ben Williams, Deputy Features Editor Hank Stuever and Managing Editor Krissah Thompson.
