Reporting to the Student Counseling Director, the Student Psychological Counselor assists with the alignment of the counseling, outreach, and educational services with national best practices and standards of excellence. The successful candidate will perform the following duties:
  • Conduct outreach presentations and workshops to students, staff, and faculty
  • Conduct therapeutic groups at the Center as needed
  • Provides student counseling services as a member of a team
  • Conduct triage assessments and weekly individual psychotherapy to a diverse population of undergraduate and graduate students with a wide range of mental health issues
  • Perform related administrative and clinical duties in support of the Center's functioning
  • Create and promote counseling groups that focus on the development of various coping skills


New Student Orientation, Health / Club Fairs, conferences **QUALIFICATIONS** Education: A Doctoral degree in Psychology to include Ph.D. and Psy.D. programs is preferred or a Master's degree in an appropriate discipline for personal or psychological counseling is required. A New York State License as a mental health practitioner (social work, psychology, or mental health counseling) is also required. Experience: Five+ years of related experience in social work, psychology, or mental health counseling. To meet the supervised experience requirement as a licensed Mental Health Counselor, you must have completed at least 3,000 clock hours providing Mental Health Counseling. The supervised experience must be obtained after completion of the master's degree program required for licensure. **CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW** Provides student counseling services as a member of a team.


  • Performs crisis intervention for emergency situations
  • Consults with instructional and administrative staff regarding student mental health issues; may prepare and present outreach initiatives and workshops
