Northern Arizona University\'s Institute for Human Development (NAU-IHD) seeks a Student Development Coordinator, Sr. to support the grant-funded program Supporting Inclusive Practices in Colleges (SIP-C).The guiding philosophy that drives SIP-C is as follows: if individuals with intellectual disabilities self-determine their educational and employment goals and have access to support to realize these goals, in authentic inclusive and age-appropriate environments, these students will achieve significantly improved transition and employment outcomes. This philosophy drives program implementation and the person hired will have the skills to bring this philosophy to fruition.
Our ideal candidate will have a demonstrated passion for supporting persons with disabilities, a belief in the transformative power of education, and a desire to provide inclusive educational opportunities to persons with disabilities in the greater Northern Arizona area.
The Student Development Coordinator will provide support and guidance to students with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities who are transitioning to, or participating in, postsecondary education opportunities. The person hired will be trained to adhere to the program strategies and activities while implementing the program with fidelity.Potential candidates must be able to travel extensively between campus sites in Northern Arizona and occasionally work evening and/or weekends.
Minimum Qualifications
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience.
  • A combination of related education, experience and training may be used as an equivalent to the above minimum requirements
  • Bachelors degree in Education, Special Education, Psychology, or Social Work.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience accessing and utilizing a variety of college resources.
  • Experience with inclusive postsecondary transitioning.
  • A valid drivers license.
  • An understanding of Vocational Rehabilitation services, Person-Centered Planning and/or Universal Design for Learning principles.
  • An understanding of the social model of disability, self-determination and inclusion as it relates to persons with disabilities.
  • Experience with Special Education and/or supporting exceptional learners.
  • Experience and/or interest in working with individuals with intellectual and/or development disabilities.
  • Familiarity with postsecondary education enrollment, participation, and retention processes.
  • Experience related to coaching, advising, or mentoring individuals with disabilities.
Knowledge Of

  • Organizational and project management practices and principals.
  • The principles of independent living, self-advocacy, and self-determination.

  • Proficient in the use of the Microsoft Suite, Google Suite, Video-conferencing, Social Media, etc.).
