Job Description

The Santa Clara County Office of Education is currently accepting applications for Student Data Specialist.

The ideal candidate for the Student Data Specialist role will have strong verbal and written communication skills, is highly proficient in SQL, has the ability to conduct data analysis with tools like Excel/Google Sheets (preferably with BI tools like Power BI and Tableau), and is comfortable working with different groups of people, including school site staff, district office administrators, external partners.

The Student Data Specialist provides support to SCCOE student services, as the CALPADS Coordinator, ensuring that student data is accurately tracked and reported. This individual also provides technical support for DataZone - the SCCOE Integrated Student Data Warehouse/ Analytics Platform, by troubleshooting technical issues that users of the application encounter, while providing guidance on how to use the application effectively.

The Student Data Specialist coordinates, with the County Office, and district personnel, to process, prepare, stage, validate, and present data in a timely and accurate manner, used by the County Office and school districts; assists with data management and processing for data warehousing, DataZone, and other applications; supports data analysis and data driven decision-making, which includes, but is not limited to generating and auditing reports and files, and providing technical assistance and training as needed.

This position is for 12 months, 261 days, 5 days a week, 8 hours per day.

Education and Experience

Any combination equivalent to:

  • Experience: three years increasingly responsible experience in data bases and information systems. Experience with student information systems is preferred.
  • Education: Associate's degree in computer science, information systems, mathematics, or related field AND

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Valid California driver's license.

EXAMINATION PROCEDURES

  • Those who pass the written exam will be invited to participate in an oral examination with subject matter experts, tentatively scheduled for June 13, 2023 .
  • Selected candidates from the list will be invited to a second interview with the hiring authorities, tentatively scheduled for June 20, 2023 .
  • Candidates will be invited over email to participate in examination and selection steps, using the email supplied within their Governmentjobs.com applications, or as updated by candidates in their Governmentjobs.com master profiles. Therefore, it is recommended that candidates check their email at least daily.
  • Following the final filing date, the qualifications of all candidates will be evaluated.
  • The most qualified candidates will be invited to participate in a written exam, tentatively scheduled for June 5, 2023.
  • Assessments and interviews will take place virtually via Zoom Meetings.
  • Based on the final scores of qualified candidates, Classified Personnel Services will establish a ranked candidate list.

Candidates who test successfully for placement on the eligibility list may be certified to other related positions without further testing requirements, OR job posting announcements.
