Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University o f New Jersey is seeking a Student Assistant in the Neuroscience and Cell Biology Department within Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
The Pan lab (www.pingyuepanlab.com) at Rutgers University Robert Wood Johnson Medical School is looking for a Lab Assistant to start ASAP . We welcome a fresh graduate who plans to take 1-2 gap years to prepare for future graduate studies to apply. This is a great opportunity for you to build credentials in academic development, to learn research skills & strategies as well as to understand responsibility and team work in a practical setting. We will also consider experienced researcher who has a true passion for research and is able to commit for at least 2 years in the lab. Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, provide assistance in studies of dopaminergic signaling in the mouse brain. Perform biological experiments to solve outstanding biomedical problems in the field of neurodegeneration.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Participates in the evaluation of the existing procedures, suggesting revisions where necessary and proposing new procedures where required.
  • Duties also include preparation of culture medium and reagents, transfection, immunocytochemistry, and confocal imaging.
  • Keeps a record of daily laboratory procedures.
  • Standard molecular cloning and DNA preparation.
  • Assists the postdoc fellow’s research project in exploiting novel optical sensor to investigate the dopamine D2 receptor trafficking in cultured neurons.
  • Maintains DAT -cre transgenic mouse line in the vivarium. This involves handling mice for breeding, tail snipping, ear marking, genomic DNA extraction, PCR -genotyping and making weekly record of basic life signs for new transgenic mice.
  • Under supervision, assists in the conducting of a continuous program of research in the laboratory. If requested, will assist in conducting specialized research for a particular phase of a project. This may involve western blotting and cellular imaging analysis.

Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must have basic knowledge in biology, if not neurobiology.
  • Has a keen interest in self-development, and organized.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior laboratory experiences in cell culture and animal handling.
