Job Description

Job Functions:

  • Measure dimensions of finished work pieces to ensure conformance to specifications, using precision measuring instruments.
  • Perform fine-tuning of tools/equipment through sample cuts and optimize the CNC program in regard to tool durability, preventing the collision of tools/equipment, program sequencing
  • Study machining instructions, routings, control plans, job orders, and blueprints to determine dimensional and finish specifications, sequences of operations, complex machine setups, and tooling requirements
  • Promote a compliance culture in area of responsibility and live the letter and the spirit of the Rolls Royce Code of Conduct.
  • Set up, adjust, and operate all of the basic machine tools and many specialized or advanced variation tools to perform precision machining operations
  • Perform special projects as may be required and maintain on the job flexibility by providing support in assembly and other production related areas
  • Stop machines to remove finished work pieces, or to change tooling, setup, or work piece placement, according to required machining sequences.
  • Operate Computer Numerical Control (CNC) HELLER machining centers with Siemens 840 D Controllers according to instructions, routings, control plans, production requirements, plans and diagrams
  • Position and align components for assembly, manually or using hoists, and verify parts clearances
  • Assemble systems of gears by aligning and meshing gears in gearboxes
  • Fasten and install piping, fixtures, or wiring and electrical components to form assemblies or subassemblies
  • Read and interpret assembly blueprints and specifications manuals, and plan assembly or building operations
  • Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas
  • Check precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, fixed and telescoping gauges, templates and fixtures, and adjust according to quality control plans

Qualifications:

Required:
  • Above average high school attendance record
  • Interest in working in manufacturing environment during apprenticeship period
  • Ability to learn basic troubleshooting and problem solving skills
  • Ability to learn basic knowledge of OSHA safety requirements and the ability to use relevant information and individual judgment to determine whether events or processes comply with laws, regulations or standards
  • Basic reading, writing and math skills
  • Ability to learn how to interpret control plans, blue prints, build documents, schematic drawings, layouts, documents regarding engine assembly and testing and quality requirements (Quality Alerts, Second Checks, etc.)
  • Clean disciplinary record
  • Basic interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with other employees in a team atmosphere
  • High School student entering the 11th grade with a minimum C grade point average
  • Passing score on Apprenticeship math assessment
  • Successful interview with MTU America representative
  • Basic oral and written communication skills
  • Basic PC knowledge and the ability to efficiently operate computer terminals and scanning devices
Preferred:
  • Ability to work overtime as required during summer sessions
  • Must have transportation to and from work during the summer work sessions
