WORK LOCATION:
Various – Structural Welders must be willing and able to travel to any of our NJ Transit locations as required.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Qualified applicants MUST pass physical welding test AWS D1.5 Bridge Welding Code for unlimited thickness in all positions.
  • Climb stairwells and ladders (with fall prevention equipment) to perform work.
  • Express knowledge of industrial safety and OSHA guidelines.
  • Clamp, hold, tack-weld, heat-bend, grind or bolt component parts to obtain required configurations and positions for welding.
  • Demonstrate complete knowledge in welding, rigging, fabrication, and torching.
  • Read and interpret project plans, blueprints, and other written instructions and diagrams to perform task at hand.
  • Walk over and work on top on fixed, overhead fixed and movable railroad bridges.
  • Produce welds that are 100% X-ray quality and demonstrate knowledge and skills in safe rigging practices.
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
Qualified applicants must be able to:
  • Provide a valid Driver’s License and High School Diploma or GED
  • Work outdoors in all type of weather conditions, including confined spaces at various heights
  • Possess exceptional problem solving and team leadership skills
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment
  • Must be a Certified Welder
  • Demonstrate extreme attention to detail and full understanding of all safety codes and procedures
  • Possess physical ability to use various types of hand and power tools
  • Successfully pass the pre-screening process which includes a physical and drug test, employment verification, criminal history, and driving background checks
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Qualified applicants must have the ability to:
  • Wear protective equipment such as hardhat, safety glasses, and safety-toe boots
  • Perform heavy lifting and carrying tasks with the weight of up to (50) fifty pounds
  • Stoop, bend, crawl, balance, climb and kneel
This is a Unionized position.
Rate of pay:
The pay rates are tiered and are non-negotiable based on years and types of experience.
