The engineer in this position will be responsible for providing support to the design engineering team through the simulation and analysis of the casting process for a given casting design. The simulation work will consist of mold flow analysis, material solidification, and thermal performance of the part and tool during the casting process

Responsibilities

What you'll do...

  • Perform casting process simulations to support the development of high press aluminum die cast parts for automotive body structural applications including flow, solidification and thermal performance of the casting during processing.
  • Support external supplier and tooling shops with process verification prior to production startup
  • Run full process simulation with tooling CAD model and process parameters to predict casting components manufacturing performance.
  • Perform assessments of the impact of alloy changes on the castability of casting designs
  • Compile simulation technical reports to support the process development process.
  • Develop design and process actions based on simulation results to guide the design engineer and supplier changes required to meet part performance and processing parameters
  • Provide suggestions for casting process and component design optimization based on model results.
  • Provide direction on design or process changes needed to optimize the casting process for maximum efficiency.

Qualifications

You'll have...

  • Microsoft Office experience.
  • Proficient with discrete-event simulation tools and Matlab or Python.
  • 3-5 years of experience working in Process Simulation software such as MAGMA or other casting simulation tool.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills and ability to manage several projects at the same time in a highly variable and uncertain environment.
  • Bachelor's or higher-level degree in Industrial or Mechanical Engineering
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
