Job Description

Ford is seeking an experienced and highly motivated engine components/systems durability CAE engineer to join the ICE, Propulsion, Thermal Systems (IPTSE) engineering team.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Optimization of engine components for performance, quality, weight and cost
  • Master of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related field
  • Minimum of 2 years of business experience in one or more of the following:
    • Heat transfer modeling in engine components
    • Durability of engine components under mechanical, thermal and vibration loading
    • Optimization of engine components for performance, quality, weight and cost
  • Heat transfer modeling in engine components
  • Durability of engine components under mechanical, thermal and vibration loading

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools
  • Experience working with global teams
  • Experience with Simulia ABAQUS, Tosca, MSC NASTRAN, FEMFAT, TeamCenter, CATIA V5, Altair Suite (Hypermesh, Hyperview, Optistruct), Simlab, Matlab
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in use of problem-solving tools (Six Sigma, DOE, etc.)
  • Proven problem solving ability
  • PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related field
  • Comfortable working in an environment where problems are not always well-defined, and interested in learning new tools and techniques
  • Six Sigma Green Belt trained

What You Will Do:

  • Apply analytical reliability & robustness methodologies to optimize engine components and systems
  • Support expedited concern resolution with cross functional teams including the design, manufacturing, quality, etc.
  • Provide direction and recommendations for the design of engine components/systems based on results obtained from FEA/CAE/Optimization analysis
  • Plan and conduct FEA/CAE analysis of engine components/systems with respect to the durability attribute
  • Collaborate with components/system engineers to resolve engine components/systems issues for both prototype and production programs
  • Apply engineering principles & analytical techniques to establish and continuously improve engine components CAE guideline/procedures
  • Collaborate with components/systems engineers to provide design direction and confirmation to achieve targets for performance, quality, function, weight and cost
