AIM is a trans-NIH shared resource that develops, operates, improves, and disseminates cutting edge, next generation optical microscopes. AIM provides collaborative support for research and development in light microscopy and image computation to labs across the entire NIH intramural program. We are looking for a highly motivated, self-driven Optical Engineer to design, build, and operate innovative optical imaging systems and image computation pipelines that will generate a transformative impact on a wide range of outstanding biological problems.
Qualifications:
- Proficiency with hardware control on one or more platforms (e.g., MATLAB, LabVIEW, Python, C/C++, Micro-Manager).
- Demonstrated expertise in the design, development, and operation of optical microscopes, opto-mechanical, and opto-electronic systems.
- Demonstrated experience in teaching and mentoring a diverse group of researchers at various levels (this includes student trainees, Post-Baccalaureate and Post-Doctoral staff).
- Experience working with optical modeling software (Zemax is preferred).
- Proficiency with one or more programming and image processing platforms (e.g., MATLAB, Python, Java/Beanshell, ImageJ, Napari, Imaris).
- Demonstrated working experience with one or more fluorescence microscopy technologies and a familiarity with several others. These technologies include but are not limited to light sheet microscopy, single molecule microscopy, super-resolution microscopy, in vivo/intravital microscopy, and non-linear microscopy.
- A track record of success with diverse interdisciplinary teams at the interface of optics and biology.
- Excellent project management skills and communication skills with experts and non-experts.
- A minimum of a Ph.D. in optical engineering, physics, or equivalent, and at least five years of relevant research experience in optical engineering, biophotonics, imaging/optical physics, or related field.
Salary is commensurate with education and experience. A full benefits package is available, including retirement, health insurance, life insurance, long-term care insurance, annual and sick leave, and Thrift Savings Plan (401K equivalent). This position is not restricted to U.S. citizens.
To Apply:
Please send cover letter, curriculum vitae, statement of research interest and the names and contact information for three references to Dr. Harshad Vishwasrao, NIBIB at [email protected].
The NIH is dedicated to building a community in its training and employment programs and encourages the application and nomination of qualified women, minorities, and individuals with disabilities.
