Summary
The position promotes good health, treats minor medical problems, responds to medical emergencies, provides first aid, administers medications, and ensures that the medical needs of clients are addressed. The position assists in the assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation of nursing care under the direction of the appropriate medical staff member.
Essential Functions
Conducts intake assessments through interviews with patients and relatives to gather case history.
Plans and provides nursing care for patients.
Makes nursing diagnosis of the medical and emotional status of patients and recommends treatment options.
Consults with psychiatrists and other behavioral health staff in designing appropriate treatment plans for clients.
Administers and notes reactions to psychotropic drugs and other medications.
Arranges further medical attention when necessary.
Assists the client in understanding the nature of emotional disturbances and accepting the need for treatment.
Assists in maintaining a safe and secure environment for staff and patients.
Test for vital signs of pain and ensures treatments of pain.
Documents all patient information on medical charts and follows physicians written orders.
Maintains patient confidentiality and accurate records and documentation of patient treatments, immunizations and laboratory results according to standard medical recordkeeping.
Performs administrative assignments such as filing, answering phones, typing, and completing progress notes in the computer system.
Minimum Requirements
The following education requirements are acceptable for this classification including:
Licensed practical nurse license to practice in the appropriate State by the board in which the program/facility resides.
One (1) year related experience in the juvenile field preferred
Trainer certification eligible or current certification in CPR/First Aid.
Other Qualifications
At least twenty-one (21) years of age.
Criminal clearances (Act 33 and 34, specific State & child clearances and, if necessary, FBI).
Non-communicable diseases physical exam.
Valid driver"s license from employees state of residence.
Valid registered vehicle insurance.
Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department.
