Southwestern Energy is hiring a Staff Environmental Specialist for our Morgantown office.


As a Staff Environmental Specialist you will provide environmental compliance support for Southwestern Energy’s SW Appalachia division assets in West Virginia, Ohio and Pennsylvania. You will prepare and maintain Environmental Plans for the well pads, be a SME for the Operations team for everything related to compliance. This position will report to the Environmental Supervisor and be located at our Morgantown, WV office. This position does require minimal travel to the well pads.


To Be Successful In This Role You


  • Monitor status of regulatory submittals and follow up with regulatory agencies
  • Have created SPCC Plans, Emergency Response Plans, environmental permitting with regulatory agencies.
  • Operate as a Subject Matter Expert for aboveground Storage Tank compliance, registration, closure, etc. in West Virginia and work with State officials
  • Are a steward for threatened and endangered species and proactively work with US Fish and Wildlife Service and state regulatory agencies to coordinate agency consultation on all projects as required.
  • Proactively understand the impacts of current regulations and track proposed regulations
  • Work closely with land, drilling, completions, production, and construction
  • Are inquisitive with a need to know the “why” not just the “how” of the role
  • Strive to be organized, proficient and personable and create relationships, across multiple disciplines, with internal stakeholders and external state agencies to resolve compliance issues.


Your Background Includes


  • Working knowledge of WV DEP, WV DNR, ODNR, OEPA, PA DEP, and USACE regulations
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Environmental science or a related field
  • Computer Proficiencies: Microsoft Office: Excel, Word, Adobe Acrobat
  • Seven (7) or more years of Environmental compliance.
  • Experience with horizontal wells, shale plays, drilling, completions and producing assets in West Virginia, Ohio and Pennsylvania
  • Experience with sub-surface oil and gas environmental compliance and a general knowledge of upstream oil and gas operations
