Staff Civil Engineer - New & Recent Graduates

PSI, an Intertek company, is searching for a Staff Civil Engineer to join our Building & Construction team in our Portland, OR office. This is a fantastic opportunity to grow a versatile career in the architectural, engineering, and construction (A/E/C) industry!

The Staff Engineer role performs various evaluations, documents observations related to sample collections and testing, and may represent the company in client interactions. The ideal Staff Engineer candidates will be college graduates within the past 24 months with an Construction, Civil, Geotechnical, or Geological Engineering Bachelor's Degree!

What you’ll do:

• May perform on-site observations, sample collection, and specific tests
• Must be aware of, and adhere to, safety practices and policies to ensure your own safety, as well as the safety of others who may be affected by your actions at work
• Works on one or multiple projects at a time
• Trains Technicians
• Performs a variety of assignments that include independent evaluations using standard techniques, procedures and criteria using judgment to make minor adoptions and modifications to these standards
• Attends client site meetings
• Reviews project plans and specifications prepared by others
• Performs preliminary report writing and review
• May work both in the field and laboratory regularly
• Communicates effectively with client and project teams

What it takes to be successful in this role:

• Consulting experience in civil and/or geotechnical engineering is preferred
• Bachelor's Degree in Civil, Construction, Geotechnical, or Geological Engineering from an accredited Engineering / ABET School is required
• Ability to work off shifts and overtime
• Ability to communicate and interact effectively in verbal & written communication
• EIT certification preferred

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift, move, push, and pull 30 to 50 pounds frequently. Occasionally, over 50 pounds with assistance
• Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time
• Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, (hearing) and to make the discriminations in sound
• Ability to climb occasionally
• Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions (hot and cold)
• Ability to kneel and squat occasionally
