Summary

The Staff Accountant is responsible for the execution of account reconciliations, journal entries, financial reporting, and accounts payable. This role performs analysis on financial balances and results to provide data and information which aids management in decision-making impacting organizational purpose and strategy.

Key Job Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • Supporting the preparation of internal and external reports including financial statements, regulatory submissions, and audit requests.
  • Identifying, creating, and maintaining policies and desktop procedures for assigned responsibilities.
  • Performing reconciliations and analytics, demonstrating an understanding of the business functions cross-functionally and transactions that drive general ledger account balances.
  • Activities within all phases of corporate accounting including accruals, fixed assets, depreciation, prepaids, loan accounting, financial reporting, and the closing process, among others.

  • Ensuring that payments are properly approved, paid in a timely manner and appropriately classified.
  • Accounts payable duties including coordinating with 3rd party vendor to process payables in the most efficient and accurate manner
    • Uploading, monitoring, and coding invoices and employee reimbursements.
    • Ensuring that payments are properly approved, paid in a timely manner and appropriately classified.
    • Researching and resolving questions from CU employees and vendors.

  • Ensures adherence to the Credit Union policy/procedures and Banking/Credit Union regulations while working to ensure sound accounting practices and adequate internal controls are in place to protect the Credit Union’s assets.
  • Keeps abreast of industry developments, including but not limited to, changes in regulations and technology.
  • Performs additional duties as required.

Job Requirements, Competencies, and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
  • One to three years of demonstrated experience in a similar role, preferably in a bank or credit union.
  • Clear and proactive communicator through verbal and written interactions.
  • Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and analytical skills.
  • Strong decision making and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects/duties.
  • Trustworthy with the ability to maintain highest level of integrity and trust.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Environmental / Physical / Mental Requirements

  • Smartphone with current iOS/Android OS
  • Ability to communicate with coworkers and customers via email, chat, teleconference, and/or phone
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a workstation and working on a computer
  • Stable internet connection with speeds high enough for video conferencing and screen sharing

Salary Range: $58,000 to $68,000 annually. Individual salary will vary based on skills and experience. Discretionary incentive compensation may be available based on company and individual performance.

Experience

Required
  • 1 - 3 years: Bachelor's degree in Accounting is required; one (1) to three (3) years of demonstrated experience in a similar role, preferably in a bank or credit union, is also required.
