Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Associate Youth Director, the Senior Youth Director is responsible for leading and developing assigned Youth Programs and Youth Directors. They must run the program with safety in the forefront. The Senior Youth Director is responsible for managing the functions of the program in accordance with the stated mission, goals, and policies established by the administrative staff, governing committees, and Board of Directors of the YMCA.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Buckhorn Creek Before & After School
  • Provide leadership to the YMCA Annual Campaign through development of staff team, recruiting volunteers and meeting annual fundraising goals as assigned.
  • Plans and organizes day-to-day operations and is present in assigned programs based on Association Program Guidelines, which include daily program schedule and staff schedules.
  • Supports the overall vision for youth, branch and association initiatives.
  • Direct Program Oversight:
    • Buckhorn Creek Before & After School
    • Supervise Kraft Inclusion Program staff for children with Diverse Abillities in Before & After School Programs
    • Camp Excel Director
    • Lead and coach two full-time Youth Directors
  • Recruits and hires diverse full time and part-time staff and volunteer teams across multiple dimensions of diversity. Responsible for onboarding and developing them for success.
  • Maintains current and required certifications and records for staff according to the YMCA of the Triangle requirements.
  • Attends all meetings that are pertinent to this position including youth, branch, and any assigned association team meetings.
  • Supervise Kraft Inclusion Program staff for children with Diverse Abillities in Before & After School Programs
  • Lead and coach two full-time Youth Directors
  • Responsible for the development and management of all aspects of program budgets and resources.
  • Fulfills department/branch obligations as required by supervisor/Branch Director i.e. “on-call” weekends, large youth events, trainings, etc.
  • Maintains all records of their assigned programs that are necessary for the operation of the department and branch effectively.
  • Contributes to and supervise the fulfillment of the YMCA mission through the Youth Department activities and programs.
  • Directs, organizes, oversees and promotes high quality and engaging programming for assigned youth programs, with an emphasis on safety, relationships, skill development, character development, group control and fun.
  • Maintains regular, clear, and concise communication within area of responsibility.
  • Camp Excel Director
  • Maintains a flexible work schedule, including some evening and weekends as needed
  • Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations. Maintains regular, clear, and concise communication within area of responsibility.
  • Continually evaluates, improves, and innovates all assigned programs to ensure they meet or exceed Association guidelines and standards.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Exceptional oral, public speaking and written communication skills.
  • Possess a high level of organization, ability to prioritize and possess the capacity to respond and handle multiple tasks appropriately in a dynamic and fast paced work environment.
  • Capacity to assist in the management of facilities, equipment, and programs.
  • Demonstrated experience in program and personnel development.
  • Ability to effectively manage staff and programs.
  • Experienced in and passionate about creating and fostering communities and relationship building through programs.
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred and/or 2-3 years of related experience.
  • Requires a positive attitude, high level of initiative and professionalism, and enjoy working in and creating a strong team environment.
  • Demonstrate initiative, effectively prioritize, and possess strong organizational, analytical and project management skills.

  • A Commercial Driver’s License, with “P” endorsement must be obtained with-in the first year of employment in order to drive a YMCA bus as needed.
  • The employee frequently is required to sit and reach and must be able to move around the work environment.
  • Ability to obtain upon hire certifications in Basic Life Support, Basic First Aid, Emergency Oxygen and Emergency Medication Administration Training. All certifications must stay current while employed with the YMCA.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use a computer for extended periods of time and be able to communicate using a computer and phone/smart device.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust.
  • The YMCA of the Triangle requires employees to comply with all COVID related PPE, cleaning, reporting and prevention expectations efforts. Further training and detail will be provided upon question and/or hire.
