Job Description
Rate of Pay - $33.90 - $36.80
As a Mechanic / Technician with FedEx Freight, you will use your heavy equipment experience and/or diesel mechanic education to maintain and repair our fleet of diesel tractors. Diesel mechanics are also responsible for trailers, forklifts, and other equipment that requires preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, modifications, and repairs.

Position Overview
To provide timely, quality, and cost-effective repair and maintenance for vehicle fleet including tractors, trailers, forklifts, and other equipment that requires preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, modifications and repairs
Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities
Repairs, modifies and performs preventive maintenance inspections; troubleshoots fleet including tractors, trailers, forklifts, and other equipment Performs advanced diagnostics to identify source of trouble and performs repairs and/or replaces or rebuilds all components and systems Makes necessary adjustments to equipment for safe and efficient operation and prepares required safety documentation Provides guidance and mentoring to less-experienced technicians Ensures proper accurate documentation of all maintenance performed, completes reports in writing and electronically Performs safety inspections of equipment and documents the work Performs paint and body work on vehicles, as required Complies with all applicable laws/regulations, as well as company policies/procedures Performs other assignments (or duties) as required

Qualifications
  • Ability to safely operate vehicles equipped with manual or automatic transmissions
  • Ability to work independently and/or as a team member
  • A heavy-duty vehicle maintenance certificate obtained from an accredited vehicle maintenance vocational/trade school may substitute for one year of vehicle maintenance experience
  • Must possess proficient computer skills including maintenance programs, and diagnostic systems
  • Medium/Heavy Truck Master ASE Certification and Class A CDL preferred
  • Must possess in-depth knowledge of gas and diesel engines and on-board computers
  • Minimum of five (5) years' experience performing vehicle maintenance
  • Experience using precision measurement instruments, oxygen/acetylene equipment, and lifting devices (bottle, floor, wheel, or transmission jacks, floor cranes, etc.)
  • Must possess necessary tools to perform assigned tasks
  • Paint and body work experience preferred
  • A Master ASE certification may substitute for an additional two years of vehicle maintenance experience
  • Ability to enter and exit the driver's compartment of the truck and/or behind cab using normal available footholds and handholds
  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills
  • Valid driver's license may be required depending on work assignment
  • Able to frequently lift components weighing up to 110 pounds with appropriate equipment and/or assistance from another person
  • High School Diploma (or GED), preferred
  • Demonstrated competency in repair and maintenance of Brakes, Electrical, PMI, Powertrain, and Trailing Equipment required
Working Conditions
  • Hours may vary due to operational need
  • Exposure to considerable amounts of dust, diesel fumes and noise
  • Exposure to chemicals, oils, greases, paints, or other irritants
  • Exposure to climate conditions of the geographic area
  • Exposure to heavy traffic areas while performing the duties of the job
  • May be required to drive service van to off-site locations and perform work
