Job Duties

This position would conduct Financial, Compliance, and Operational audits of the Department of Military Affairs’ units to evaluate the adequacy and effectiveness of the agency’s internal controls, reviews the reliability and integrity of the Departmental data, determines compliance with all applicable laws, rules, regulations and DMA policies and procedures. Determines whether the agency’s assets are properly safeguarded and assesses the economy and efficiency of the agency’s operations. Will protect the integrity of the agency by conducting investigations of allegations of fraud that could negatively reflect on the agency. Responsible for preparing, submitting, and certifying the yearly Agency Risk Management and Internal Control Standards (ARMICS) for the agency. Liaison for all external audits/reviews and prepares and provides required documents to auditing officials. Prepares Corrective Action Plans (CAP) and coordinates with appropriate unit for resolution and maintains Corrective Action Plan (CAP) trackers. Conducts internal audits and communicates results and improvements to both internal and external customers. Will audit all Year End and Financial statement attachments and backup documentation for accuracy.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Demonstrated proficiency with personal computers and non-menu driven databases.
  • Graduation from a college or university with major studies in accounting; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Must fill out yearly Economic Interest Statement.
  • In addition, must be able to apply pertinent policy, laws and regulations to specific situations
  • Previous audit/accounting experience is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform internal and external audits as well as the yearly ARMICs program submission to Department of Accounts (DOA).
  • Have analytical and critical thinking skills and be able to clearly communicate with upper management and other employees.
  • Extensive knowledge of internal controls.
  • Ability to analyze large volumes of data, draw conclusions and be able to properly write a narrative audit report.
  • Must be detailed oriented.
  • Ability to plan and organize work; communicate effectively orally and in writing; have analytical/problem solving skills.
  • Significant knowledge of generally accepted accounting practices and audit principles.
  • Ability to review a functional area and determine appropriate audit procedures, and make appropriate practical recommendations.

Preferred Qualifications:

Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) and/or Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) desired.
