Job Description

Position Description: Speech-Language Pathologist (Clinical Fellow), Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic. Full time, 12-month position beginning July 1, 2023. Responsible for providing patient care in the University of Utah Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic under direct supervision of a faculty mentor. In addition to clinical care, the clinical fellow may assist in research/scholarship activities, and may be assigned to serve on departmental and university committees. The University of Utah Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic is a national leader in educational and community-based practice. The Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic is currently in an expansion phase with significant growth occurring in the past five years.

University/Program: The University of Utah is a Doctoral/Research Extensive University with 34,000 students from every state and over 100 foreign countries. The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (www.health.utah.edu/csd/) is located in the College of Health and currently includes 14 full-time faculty, 100 undergraduate students and 100 graduate students. Both the Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology programs are CAA accredited.

Community: Salt Lake City is a beautiful city of 250,000 in a major metropolitan area of 1.5 million, nestled in the foothills of the Wasatch Mountains. Utah’s great outdoors are close by, offering activities from world class skiing, hiking, and mountain biking in the spectacular canyons surrounding the city. The city is cosmopolitan with easy access to theater, the arts, sports, entertainment and nightlife. Downtown Salt Lake City and the University are accessible by light rail to the suburbs. Responsibilities
1. Provide appropriate evaluation and treatment to all patients assigned to your schedule.
2. Complete required clinical documentation (i.e., SOAP notes, progress reports, diagnostic reports, etc.) in a timely manner.
3. Coordinate with supervisor and clinic staff to complete documentation required for third-party billing and adhere to required deadlines.
4. Assist the Director of Clinical Education in development and scheduling of assigned clinical caseload.
5. Maintain compliance with departmental policies and ASHA requirements regarding patient care.
6. Attend regularly scheduled meetings with supervisor.
7. Attend continuing education activities to maintain ASHA clinical fellowship requirements.
8. Other duties as assigned by the Director of Clinical Education and/or Department Chair.


Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Master’s degree in an accredited communication sciences and disorders clinical training program.
2. Temporary license in Utah under the supervision of an ASHA certified and licensed SLP (requires a passing score on the Praxis Board exam).
3. Preference will be given to candidates with relevant graduate academic and clinical training with gender-affirming voice care. Additional experience with preschool speech and language disorders, fluency disorders, and/or autism is preferred.
4. Ability to effectively interact with co-workers and clients with diverse ethnic backgrounds, religious views, cultural backgrounds, life-styles, sexual and gender orientations and treat everyone with respect and dignity.

This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements.
