Position Summary

Performs professional speech and language work in diagnostic evaluations and therapeutic programs serving young children birth to age three and their families. Provides services as part of the Mecklenburg County Children’s Developmental Services Agency (CDSA) and administers the North Carolina Infant Toddler Program. This position, using independent judgement, is responsible for testing, evaluating, counseling and instructing to habilitate or rehabilitate the development and disorders of speech, voice, or language for the purpose of identifying, preventing, improving, or modifying such disorders; and planning and administering speech therapy programs.

Essential Functions

  • Plan and conduct speech therapy programs designed to prevent, assess, diagnose, and treat speech,
language, and social communication disorders.
  • Evaluate patient to assess the level of speech difficulty and conducts various vocalization tests to
determine the extent of patient communication ability.
  • Identify specific treatment options and subsequently designs and implements an individualized
treatment plan aimed at helping patients restore function in the areas of speech, language, hearing,
and oral motor disorders.
  • Evaluate and document treatment progress, implementing treatment changes when necessary.
  • Write assessment reports that follow professional, state, and department guidelines.
  • Counsel patients and their families on how to cope with speech-related disorders.
  • Utilize appropriate evaluation instruments and protocols to address referral questions with individual

Minimum Qualifications

Experience:
Minimum of two years of experience working with young children and their families.

Education:
Master's Degree in Speech Pathology.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Requires County Driving Privileges
  • Requires a valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver's License
  • Certification by the American Speech and Hearing Association
  • North Carolina licensure as a Speech Therapist

Computer Skills

  • Proficient in various computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite
