JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for evaluation and treatment of patients with deficits within the covered scope of an SLP. Evaluation and treatment are focused on increasing intelligibility of speech, using alternative or augmentative devices to facilitate better communication of wants and needs, addressing cognitive functions, and receptive-expressive language, and improving swallowing safety through oral exercises and diet texture modification.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides and directs Speech therapy services, including assessment, treatment, program planning and implementation, related documentation, and communication.
- Conducting assessments, analyzing results, and writing reports to determine strengths and concerns in areas of speech, voice, fluency, pragmatics, language, and oral motor skills.
- Participate in patient care planning.
- Document, prepare and complete a Plan of Care, progress notes, phone orders, and other clinical record documentation on an ongoing basis.
- Identifies and educates on communication impairments implementing treatment geared at restoration or compensation as appropriate.
- Develop effective treatment plans and obtain approval for services from referring physician.
- Collaborate with an occupational therapist, physical therapist, physicians, and other members of the healthcare team relative to individual patient treatment programs and progress.

- Collaborates with family on diet recommendations and technique.

- Carry out patient care plans or portions thereof, determining appropriate progression of patients within real of the established care plan.
- Demonstrate the knowledge and skills of administering standardized speech/language assessments, conducting swallowing evaluations, developing treatment plans, and monitoring patient progress.
- Develop, coordinate, implement, and monitor an individual's plan of care.
- Opportunity to conduct treatment with our diverse client population.
- Document patient evaluations, treatment progress notes, and discharge summaries for the patient's medical records promptly as defined by the department policy manual.
- Functions under physician’s orders.
REQUIREMENTS
- Demonstrated competence in speech-language pathology evaluation, assessment, care planning and treatment required.
- Effective communication skills for working with patients, families and caregivers required.
EDUCATION
- ASHA certification required.
- Must be fully licensed with Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC)s.
- Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology required.
- TX SLP Licensure
CERTIFICATION, LICENSURE
- TX SLP Licensure
- Must be fully licensed with Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC)s.
- ASHA certification required
- Current CPR certification.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES
