Esther B. Clark Schools provide transformative education in a caring, therapeutic day school setting where children with emotional and behavioral issues re-engage in learning and develop the positive behaviors necessary to transition back to a more traditional school setting. It’s one of the most successful programs of its kind.
Under the direction of the School Director, the Esther B. Clark Teacher carries out the primary responsibility for developing and teaching academic skills & curriculum based on Common Core standards as well as formulating and addressing Individualized Educational Plan goals

Responsibilities:

  • Present performance updates & proposed goals at 30-day, annual, and triennial IEP meetings. Attend other IEP meetings as requested.
  • Instruction demonstrates recognition of skill deficits and effective implementation of appropriate accommodations and supports to optimize student engagement.
  • Conduct three formal parent-teacher conferences per year and update parents on student engagement and progress via e-mail or phone at least once every two weeks.
  • Ensure teaching credential is valid and attend professional development seminars/workshops/conferences on an annual basis.
  • Prepare lesson plans in core academic areas that meet accessibility criteria to grade level requirements of Core Curriculum.
  • After thorough review of records, develop strong working knowledge of each student’s learning challenges, from which IEP goals are formulated and appropriate instructional supports and materials are employed to facilitate progress.
  • Meet on a bi-weekly basis for supervision with Academic Program Manager.
  • Through professional development, becomes knowledgeable about best instructional practices in working with children who have learning, attention and social-emotional challenges.
  • Co-facilitate weekly team meetings with the Behavior Specialist.
  • When appropriate, oversee the prudent preparation and execution of small group lessons by the Classroom Assistant.
  • Provide daily guidance and coaching to Classroom Assistant so that the Assistant at a minimum can effectively help manage preparation for upcoming lessons, support individual students during lessons and correct student work after the lesson.
  • Attend all school staff and teachers’ meetings.
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned.
  • Prepare annual IEP goals and objectives and then update in October, February and May.
  • Monitor each student’s progress on their IEP goals by constructing a portfolio of each child’s work over time, periodically reviewing it with the child/parent, and by administering formal and informal testing.


Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of basic computer skills and preferably using new technologies such as SMARTboards, document cameras, Zoom, etc.
  • Knowledge of Common Core curriculum and instructional delivery systems that facilitate access to grade-level standards for children with learning challenges.
  • Ability to work on an interdisciplinary team and to provide guidance/supervision to teaching assistants/interns.
  • Must possess at least a valid and active intern level mild to moderate special education credential; Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Ability to develop, prepare, deliver and monitor progress on IEP goals.
  • Has experience preparing and presenting Individual Educational Plans (IEP’s)
  • Seeks to work on an interdisciplinary team
  • Adept at identifying accommodations and interventions that facilitate an optimally successful learning experience for students with learning challenges.
  • Has recent experience working in a classroom of ED children and understands the etiologies of students who have anxiety, attention, mood dysregulation and specific learning challenges
  • Has practical knowledge of Core Curriculum, Universal Design for Learning, and Differentiated Instruction and have implemented these instructional approaches in previous work environments
  • Possesses strong positive behavior management skills.
  • Possesses strong writing skills. Able to synthesize professional level data & information into understandable lay person language.
  • Has strong interpersonal skills with both professionals and students.
  • Experience in Single or Multiple Subjects
  • Knowledge of and classroom teaching experience with children who have serious social-emotional behavioral and learning challenges.
  • Comfortable using new technologies (SMARTboards, document cameras, Zoom, etc.) and incorporating emergent software.
  • Valid CA Mild/Moderate Special Education credential or intern credential
  • Ed. and advanced workshop-level training in teaching students with learning disabilities is preferred.

Salary Range:
$59,387 to $105,204 Annually
  • The starting base pay for this position is as shown above. The actual base pay is dependent upon a variety of job-related factors such as professional background, training, work experience, location, business needs, and market demand. This pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
