Job Description

The North Providence School Department is seeking to hire a certified Special Education Resource Teacher for the 2022/2023 school year.Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Experience with students with special needs.2. Help maintain individual records for each student.3. Guide students in developing positive relationships with peers and adults (including outside agencies and service providers).4. Consult with all general education staff (including itinerants and support staff) as needed.5. Must possess good communication skills and patience.6. Provide escort and assistance to students as necessary.7. Design and implement IEPs, conduct and interpret educational evaluations, complete case management and Medicaid paperwork.8. Collect and display suitable material for educational displays.9. Develop materials for individual and group lessons.10. Modify student work to remediate students weaknesses.11. Attend meetings to help organize weekly program of instruction and discuss problematic students and situations if required.12. Requires lifting during transfers and repositioning.13. Required to attend upcoming CPI training for de-escalation techniques.14. Assist with mobility as needed when necessary.15. Able to assist the student when met with a challenge by physical needs when necessary, such as outbursts, elopement, etc.16. Implement sensory diet techniques.17. Differentiate instruction and materials based on each individual learner.18. Direct classroom support staff to meet the needs of the students.19. Consultation with outside services when offered.20. Develop and implement data collection tools for FBA, BIP and Manifestation Determination as needed when necessary.21. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Student Services or his/her designee.1. Demonstrated aptitude for working with a special needs population.2. Knowledge of FBA, BIP and Manifestation Determination.3. Knowledge of the General Education Curriculum.4. Knowledge of MTSS/PBIS. 5. Building on Social and Emotional skills. 6. Documented experience and/or training with students who have Autism Spectrum Disorder, medically fragile, multi-handicapped, Significant Intellectual Impairments and Behaviors that interfere with learning.7. Knowledge of Transition Services, Self-Determination & Self-Advocacy.8. Knowledge of Alternative Assessments.
